It (the Origin content delivery system) scans to see what programs you are running so they can watch for cheating programs on PC. Doesn't apply to consoles. And if one thinks that EA really has the time to look at their secret video collection (ahem), I have several styles of tin foil hat available for sale. It's really no different than Steam, which also scans your computer for similar information.
If you just don't like it on principle alone, I suppose there's a point, but I'd blame the cheaters who make the game less fun to play, not EA. Just sayin'.
Also, I've complained about this before, but for cryin' out loud can I get some functioning voice chat up in here? Screaming into my bluetooth in hopes that my teammates may or may not be listening is getting rather frustrating, especially so when your entire team is failing to spot, use cover, communicate, coordinate or anything else remotely related to winning a round. *sigh*
I will say this: I did have two matches where one other teammate could communicate with me, but still... it was only one player and it was the first time in about 3 or 4 days I heard anyone other than in-between matches.
Can't wait until the incoming patch is announced.Last edited by schm0; 11-02-2011 at 11:43 AM.

Last I heard EA was coming under pressure in Germany due to Origin.
The strict terms also might put EA in violation of German law, which includes a provision that states no contract shall override the laws of the state in which a customer resides. If the data the company is collecting conflicts with federal privacy laws, the EULA would be rendered null and void until it had been revised to meet the proper legal standards.
While EA has refused to comment publicly on the matter, they might not have a choice for much longer. The State Commissioner for Data Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia has reportedly taken an interest in the case, as EA Germany's Cologne heaquartes are located within his jurisdiction. The Comissioner is expected to conduct a full inquiry on the matter, beginning with a subpoena for the information being collected about consumers, the purpose it serves, and who it is being distributed to. If EA's answers aren't satisfactory, they may be forced to change their practices, update the EULA, or potentially even face legal action from the state. -- gameranx
A lot of people have been returning the game, and some retailers have had to put up notices about Origin in their stores.

To be fair, that is pretty much what everyone needs to realise. It's like the people who complain about DRM, and then pirate games because of the DRM - all they do is make the DRM even worse in future games, making more people pirate the games... It just keeps going...It (the Origin content delivery system) scans to see what programs you are running so they can watch for cheating programs on PC. Doesn't apply to consoles. So, just curious... how long do you think before a patch comes out?

So I finally hopped on the bandwagon today and picked this game up, for Xbox 360. Turns out every copy for BF3 on PS3 in the world is sold out.

Come on guys, let's keep it clean here. You know the rules, it's a family site so content should be relatively family-friendly. You can say/post/embed what you wish over on the Platoon site if you want, but in this thread the rules are still the rule.
And let's watch the spam, guys... mmmk? Ponies go in the Ponies thread.

Reaction/pony/"fffuuu" images (i.e. pretty much anything from 4chan) on their own have always been considered spam. Your response should contain text and relevant content in addition to any images you may want to post. Furthermore, in this case, the image served to poke fun at another member. Lastly, we prefer that pony-related images stay in pony-related threads. By their very nature, BF3 and My Little Pony have very little in common.
What tends to happen when we allow image-responses like that is that they tend to derail a thread and devolve it into one-image replies, which turns an otherwise harmless thread into a spam-fest. Occasionally we try to pre-empt this from happening and get a thread back on track, like I did above.
It was nothing against you personally, just putting on my mod hat for a bit.
Now, that's not to say we can't post relevant images that are both on-topic and hilariously funny:

Well, I've seen them all over the forums, and as far as I know they're still there.Reaction/pony/"fffuuu" images (i.e. pretty much anything from 4chan) on their own have always been considered spam.
I only commented on it because at first the post "...derp" was still there, which could obviously be classified as spam just as easily, if not more-so, than the image that was a response to it. I see now that said post has been removed.
...I don't see how, but if anyone, it was making fun of myself.
I know what it's like to be a moderator (as I've moderated/administrated several message boards in the past), and I understand your decisions completely. Please don't take this post as some kind of argument or instigation. By no means am I trying to say you're doing a bad job. In fact, you're doing a superb job. As previously mentioned, the only reason I even brought it up was because the original "spam" message was still there, whereas my response was deleted.
But I digress, we should get this thread back on topic before it's derailed further.
I beat the campaign yesterday. The campaign was pretty epic, though it was extremely short, much to my disappointment. I beat it in a meager few hours. I was also disappointed how you don't actually pilot a jet or helicopter at any point during the campaign. So much for being able to practice! Looks like I'll have to suffer through hate messages telling me I'm a noob for crashing the vehicles as soon as I take off until I can learn to fly.

Some tips/observations for multiplayer:
- HIT. SELECT. TO. SPOT. ENEMIES. It seems like every game I am the only player doing this. WTF? Your helping your team AND your getting potentially getting points. I will sometimes manage to spot snipers by accident just by scanning the play area and hitting select.
- If you're squad leader use the attack/defend order. Again, this requires pointing at the objective and hitting select. You will get points when your squad mates are in the vicinity of the objective.
- pro pilots seem to have a lot of flares, I once wasted 5 stingers with zero result. Chopper pilots seem to have less. I have taken down a lot more choppers then jets, let pilots on your team take them out instead. If a noob takes the aircraft though then they will not have flares so fire away, I have taken down a couple of jets.
- fellow engineers, explosive specialization is your friend, it DOUBLES the amount of rockets you can carry. 10 RPG's, 6 stingers, 4 javelins. On that note, javelins are the least effective imo. Yes, you get the lock on but that takes time and you cannot use that jav against infantry (plus only 4 to play with). The damage doesn't appear too much more then the RPG either. Single RPG blast from behind will disable a tank.
- should be obvious but modify equipment/class based on map. Metro=Engineer with RPG's or Assault for lots of healing in choke points. Kharg Island is great for snipers or engineers equipped with ANY anti-vehicle gear.
Loving the game but does anyone think that overall the maps in Bad Company 2 were better? Just a thought, really looking forward to Karkand pack in December though, apparently it will have a lot more destruction

OMG YESSS. I hate how I'm always the only one who does this! It's so useful!
This too! It's free points for the whole squad, I hate when squad leaders don't do it! D:
I usually just change depending on the game mode, which team I'm on, and how I think I could help my team out. When I defend, I usually take the support class and use the Type-88 with a bipod, and kinda camp, except I move from spot to spot so that I can kill enemies before they reach an objective. For attacking I always use the assault class.

Most of which came from clay, who was unlucky enough to continuously die due to the fact that he would get revived right in the enemies line of sight :P
