Dude. You just came into a thread full of people excited for a Winnie The Pooh movie, state that you think Winnie The Pooh is horrible, then boast about how your childhood cartoon was 'top quality'.
    That's just low, and unnecessary.

On-topic, I'll probably be getting this on DVD. It looks really good though!

Seems like it's planned for July in the USA I can't explain that 3-month gap though. Anyway, I never got to see Winnie the Pooh on TV (although I used to have a Winnie plush ), but I gotta say this movie sounds pretty neat and... I don't know, there's something special. When I saw the Yogi Bear trailer, I found that rather clumsy and unsubtle. But however childish Winnie The Pooh may seem, it also looks pretty touching and moving to me.

I don't know if you ever got this in America. It's the best thing ever.

Edit: I am actually being serious, for anyone who may think I am being sarcastic. Whinnie The Pooh is like, my favourite thing ever.

Edit 2 for clarification: This is out July 15th, 2011. When I said I'm not sure if America ever got it, I meant Whinnie The Pooh in general, not that you'd missed the film. So yeah, I'd assume it'll come out over there?

Urgh... I'm trying SO HARD right now to act all tough and outlaw-ish as I usually do... but... I just can't. This is legitimately too awesome to razz about.

I remember watching the first Winnie the Pooh, the "Crystal Cave" one and the "Tigger Movie". Sure, they are all directed at 5-6 year olds, but they're well animated and their stories, as well as their morales, are by far some of the best I've seen in Disney storytelling. All 3 of those movies, as well as the Kingdom Hearts series' interpretations, nearly made me cry every time.

I actually saw this on a list of "most anticipated movies of 2011", and this was #3 (#1 was Pirates of the Carribbean: At Stranger Tides). My friends will try and act macho about it and dismiss it as a "baby movie"; I'll just sneak into the theater when they're not looking.

I remember watching the same Winnie movie over and over and over again. These moments were the best.

I'm not down with this whole idea that threads should only be for the gratification of those that like a topic.
Forums are for the free and open exchange of ideas - if only people posting "OMG I LOVE WINNIE THE POOH" are allowed in this thread, then you would get the mistaken idea that "everyone" loves Winnie the Pooh.
When in fact they do not, some people (like myself) are completely non-plussed by it. That doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to post in a thread though, as I can still have an opinion on it.

I'm just trying to show that I think the general standard of childrens entertainment has gone down since my childhood.

Saying that just because my opinion differs from everyone elses that it is low and unnecessary is, I think, low and unnecessary.

If you guys like Winnie the Pooh and are excited by it, then good for you. But don't hate on me just because I don't feel the same way

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Seriously, anyone with half a brain knows that not everyone on this forum loves Winnie-The-Pooh. If you want to rant, go post in your blog. That is all, I'm not going to get this thread locked.

    Hi, my name is Macnme

If I were to adopt that philosophy I would never speak

There's no need to get all defensive, I'm not looking for an argument - I'm not going off on a rant, and I'd rather the thread wasn;t locked. I just don't understand why every single thread has to be a self congratulation for like minded individuals?
It's a much more interesting place when there is a difference of opinion.

I understand your point, Macnme, and I always respect that everyone has a different opinion, but you could have said it in a less...well, snooty way. Maybe something like "I never cared much for it" or "It's not really that great of a cartoon, in my opinion" would have sounded a bit more neutral instead of "It's like being suffocated with cotton wool, and all the cartoons I used to watch were top-quality, unlike this." You can be honest without being rude.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't/wasn't a quality cartoon.
In my opinion, the old Winnie the Pooh cartoon I watched when I was little was good quality, and so were all the old shows that used to air on Nicktoons and Cartoon Network in the late 90's and very early 2000's.

As already mentioned, just because you dont like it doesn't mean it's not good.
Come on man, you're trying to tell people their childhoods are meaningless because they didn't watch the same cartoon as you.
"Thats crap, this is better" is my opinion on the subject though?! - just saying "Eh, I don't care for it" would be a pointless statement, because it doesn't explain anything on 'why' I don't care for it. & I would have been told to shut up just as much anyway. & if anything, I would say I'm contributing more to this thread than most?!

But there is a marked difference between the raw, gritty, slightly adult nature of the Cartoons I was exposed to as a child - like Watership Down, Plague Dogs (like a darker, more disturbing Watership Down), Fire & Ice (Swords & Sorcery Awesomeness), Lord of the Rings (animated)... and the overly childish, sanitised offerings from today.
I couldn't see something like Plague Dogs being made today... more's the pity.
& I'm not trying to destroy anyones childhood - just what kind of monster do you think I am?
I'm trying to improve peoples childhoods by exposing them to the same awesome stuff that I was
Honestly, If you've never seen Plague Dogs or Fire & Ice - hunt them down, they are still brilliant.

But maybe someone could explain to me, seeing as how I've never understood it... what's the attraction with Winnie the Pooh? Even as I child I thought it was like having anesthetic poured into my eyes. I guess I like my entertainment to have more edge and bite.
The only good thing about Winnie the Pooh is Eeyore

Yes, but it was rude and there are TONS of ways to say it just a little bit more politely. If you would have been more polite and respectful to other people's opinions about it, then maybe you wouldn't have been shot down so quickly.
This is all a matter of OPINION - it's not an absolute fact that the cartoons that you used to watch are better than the ones I used to watch, which is what your 'opinion' seems to be coming off as.
Excuuuuuuse me for being born in the late 90's and not even knowing of those 'brilliant' and 'pure gold' cartoons' existence. I'm very picky about shows/cartoons, so I probably wouldn't agree with your opinion on those, but you never know.

And there you go again with the "suffocated with cotton wool"-esque phrases...That's not very necessary.
The attraction to Winnie the Pooh (well, the 90's cartoon that I watched, at least) is that was cute, fun & lighthearted, and just enjoyable to watch.

Anyways, I'm done with this! I'm not gonna sit here and argue about Winnie the Pooh. To each their own.

  18. Thanks!

I'll admit I have a forcefull way of offering my opinion that people seem to interpret as a statement of fact.
It's not your fault you were born too late... but even my Dad agrees that my generation had the best kids TV/Films - and he hates that kind of thing. But now that you know about them, I would strongly urge you to give them a watch, if even to see what kids stuff 'used' to be like

Each to his own indeed - but you should at least try someone elses (I watched Winnie the Pooh and thought it was bland, uninteresting, unfunny and suicidally boring - but that's just my critique)

Alright, alright! We get it already, you don't like Winnie the Pooh - You don't hafta restate why you hate it in every single post of yours, it's only offending people further.
Yeah well, I don't even know where I'd find those cartoons, plus the fact that I haven't exactly had the time for those kind of things lately. Maybe someday.

Winnie The Pooh was written where I live (before it was bought by Disney of course). I've seen all the sites of the books inspiration.

100 acre wood = Ashdown forest (East Sussex UK).

6500 acres of land to escape and relax in fantasy particularly good in the summer when I was young (about 5 or 6) imagining i was on one of pooh's adventures. but instead I now just walk the hills freezing my gentlemen's vegetables off.
