Thread: Recording Audio

Is the Playstation Eye or a Headset the only way to record audio for cutscenes?

I have the gear and a talented voice actor and was really looking forward to having some high quality narration for my levels. Please tell me we're not stuck with the crappy recording of the PSEye...

Anyone figured out a way to import high quality audio clips?

Supposedly you can use a USB mic, which also implies you can feed it via mic/line-in from a high quality source, but I've no idea which USB mics are compatible.

I'm hoping that somebody with several available headsets and mics will be able to test them and give us the lowdown on which ones work better (and maybe do a demo level). So far, though, it seems that usb mics tend to do better than bluetooth (which can come out sounding kind of canned). I kind of like my Rock Band mic for preserving lower tones and not sounding canned, but it seems to have problems with cutting out (I think the problem is with the mic itself: it's old and has seen a LOT of use), I have to practically scream into it to get decent volume, and you have to hold it completely still 'cuz the slightest rubbing against the wire (like where it touches the floor) will be recorded.

Also, as Aya mentioned, there has been some talk of using a usb mic adapter with a miniplug socket to run a line in, but I don't know of anybody who's tried it yet (I tried, but my adapter was for a 3 contact miniplug used for headsets, not a 2 contact one used for a regular line-in so it didn't work).

Okay i own a USB mixer and i plugged it into the PS3. It totally works. I ran into 2 problems. The audio quality no matter what i do sound horrible, even when i use my Bluetooth headset. Also after a few second it sounds like the audio oscillate from loud to low constantly. Then i plugged in my rockband mic and i get the same thing. I find it amazing that i am able to plug in my USB mixer but the sound quality is not as good like in the story.

Huh. I thought it was just 'cuz my mic was old that I was getting that. Well that's obnoxious. I remember there being some talk of lbp2 having a feature for throwing out low volume stuff (it had to be over a certain volume to be recorded) that was causing problems. Might be what's going on here. I hope more people with usb mics are able to corroborate so we can get some meaningful statistics, but so far it does seem that usb mics can be a bit dodgy.

And yeah, there's no way, even with the best equipment, that you'll be able to get voice quality on par with story mode. They have to keep audio files small enough to be downloaded on a per level basis for community levels, but they didn't have that limitation with the on-disc levels.

This is the exact problem I am having; I'm trying to record music, and it keeps cutting out. Doesn't matter if I use the Rock Band Mic or the PS Eye. Frustrating. I'll have to publish my level with crappy audio and all.

You can go onto a magic mouth and when you choose the voice type for what is said (should be on X for default) go across to Record Voice. Now when you say something it is recorded. Is that it?

It sounds pretty much like it does when you're listening to someone with the mic. It's fuzzy.

I've noticed with voice recording if you go over a certain voulume on LBP2 via usb headset usb camera or blu tooth headset
your going to get the same quality regardless
Media Molecule should make a patch beause even with chatin with friends the sensitivity with other sounds makes the game sound go out or start crackling very bad like static D: very annoying I understand your frustration man
