Gaming without music is often pretty boring, especially racing.
Good music that fits with the game is just awesome, because it gives some additional atmosphere.
Good for a shooter:

the reason why I chose this song, is because this song is firstly awesome and secondly it gives you some kind of adrenalin, forces you to shot every creepy beast in the head and shot over 9000 times on the corpse, with the effects of ragdoll
Good for racer: (I listen it on Wipeout HD all time)
Static X - Get to the Gone
Slipknot - Spit it Out
Static X - Push it
Drowning Pool - Bodies
Drowning Pool - Reminded
Marilyn Manson - Astonishing Panaroma of the Endtimes
and of course System of a Down.. yes I have about 108 tracks for Wipeout HD xD

heh I say anything heavy, well for me, really anything I like actually, which mostly narrows it down to Metallica and System of a Down but oh well, as long as it's not death/power/black etc or slow metal it should fit if it's solid enough.
EDIT:The intro to that song sounds like someone dying, that or Corey is trying really really hard to get something out of his throat.Slipknot - Spit it OutLast edited by Tomo009; 11-21-2008 at 12:01 PM.

It depends on the game really, but it's usually rock one way or another. For the most part it's grunge (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc.), but sometimes I change it up a bit. Notably, I've taken to playing PixelJunk games with Joy Division in the background. Something semi-hypnotic about those games (Eden & Monsters) anyway; Ian Curtis' awesome vocals tie the whole experience together.

I demand a GTA IV Radio with your own soundtracks.. but otherwise, in my history of Grand Theft Auto I alway get to know some new (well, old songs, but new to me) tracks.
But now I want my own tracks for GTA IV... 'd be awesome!

I'm of the opinion if you really want a great experience while playing games that have prgorammable soundtracks... YOu have to go with some classic music. Running around in a hail of gunfire, enemies, bullets with music like the Flight of the Valkyries or Grieg's "march of the dwarfs" in the background .. it's just (IMO) heightens the thrill.

If it's a game with an original soundtrack like Mario, LBP, or Metal Gear, for instance, I'll listen to that.
If it's something with a custom soundtrack or what have you, I'll listen to classic rock, anime/video game tunes, classical, jazz, etc.

I hate it when my friends blare music while we're playing games. Sure, I like the music that they're playing, but I'd prefer to listen the music in the game, as it fits better.
