anyone else think this is too soon? it hasn't been a year yet and their cutting the price already, right before Lair, MGS4, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, is due to come out....

WHAT THE HECK SONY!!!!!!!!!! You will lose even more if you cut the price before the reason to buy a PS3 is out....LBP!!!

yeah but sonys gonna make more money AND save because in order to cut the price,they will take out the ps2 harddrive(29 bucks for this i think) and theyre gonna combine two parts(i forgot wut it wuz srry)maybe thisll stop those ps 3 flamers

I think one of the huge costs was the whole Blu-ray drive and the brand new Cell processor. I think now that the manufacturing is in full swing, the cost of manufacturing those 2 components has dropped a fair amount. Or so I've been told.

Not that they are making money on things now, but I think they're not losing as much per console as when the PS3 launched.

Well, like i said b4, unlike the other companies, sony thinks of its consumers, I mean they make a ps3 with more money than the money they sell it, now thats a thoughtful company there

If you guys looked at the ps3's sales on amazon the day the price cut happened, You woudl have seen the sales increase rate go up to 2800%. Crazy. Also for some reason there was a special ps3 controller thing that went up by 32000% sales increase O_O

Oh comon, I don't think any of these companies care about their consumers besides their money.

Anyway, they don't really profit on the hardware, but on the software, and the more ps3's sold will mean more games sold too.

thats where your wrong, a teacher doesn't take its job for the money, same goes for the video game industry. Sure some of them *cough* Moore *cough* might care about the money. But most of the video game industry create games so they can play it, have fun with others, and see their fans adore their work.

Yeah, but there is a difference. Teaching is different than running a business. I can agree that the companies can care about the general interest of their consumers, such as not using cheap parts that will break easily to save money *cough*. What you said is true about most developer's etc. But Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo's businesses revolve a lot more around money than making individual consumer's happy, except for the fact that the two are usually very connected.
