The scene opens with the skyline of a city, 1,000 years ago. Nightmare and Celestia are locked in combat.

Celestia: Princess Luna, listen to me! You don't have to do this! Just lower the moon and everything can go back to normal.
Nightmare: You mean back to a world where my night, my masterpiece, is ignored? Don't make me laugh.
Celestia: We're sorry. I'm sorry!. We should have paid more attention to you.
Nightmare: I'm afraid it's too late for apologies. All of Equestria will kneel before me and my glorious night. All I need to do now is defeat my pathetic sister.

Nightmare's horn projects a deep purple aura; a beam of pure darkness sweeps horizontally, narrowly missing Celestia. The tower behind her is cleaved in two, and it begins to collapse on top of her. Celestia's own horn glows with a pinkish aura, and a barrier manifests above her, shrugging off the rubble. Celestia then flies towards the castle.
Nightmare: Run all you like, there is no escaping me!

Nightmare flies to the highest point in the city to proclaim her victory.
Fade to Celestia standing in the bright hall of the castle, stained glass fills the windows, 6 glistening stones levitate above a pedestal before her; the Elements of Harmony.
Celestia: So it has come to this...

Fade back to outside the castle.
Nightmare: * maniacal laughter* Your precious Celestia has abandoned you. Equestria is mine!
Celestia: Luna, surrender at once!
Nightmare: *laughter* Do you honestly think you can defeat me? No, my dear, I will not surrender.
Celestia: *whispers with tears in her eyes* So be it...

The Elements activate, try as she might, Nightmare cannot avoid the attack. She collapses before Celestia. Celestia's horn glows once again, Nightmare is shrouded in light. With a flash, her form disappears, as her image appears on the moon. Celestia looks up at the moon and whispers:

"Hang in there, little sister. I'll find a way to restore you. I'll find a way to bring you back..."
