So, I haven't been in this thread for a little while, but I'm still totally obsessed with Derpy Hooves. I actually had someone on deviantart make me a custom plushie of her because I was too lazy to try to make her myself. :P

I've actually been watching quite a bit of this show since I've been home a lot due to my jaw surgery thing. It's seriously one of the best shows on television right now.

I felt for some reason a bit dark, so I drew this. She's hurt pegasus who lost her wing during saving her village from a mighty thunderstorm. She gained her cutiemark and lost one of her Wings. I name her Aloine.

Lauren Faust answered that apparently Unicorns, Pegasus and Earth Ponies can *ahem* "gather" with whichever they wanted, so its pretty much a free-for-all kinda deal. xD

They're called Alicorns and no, those are made what you could call "royal genes in a way, both parents have to be Alicorns for it to happen.
(Actually I THINK only one has to be actually, not surr, but there HAS to be Alicorn parents.)
