To do this, you have to go to the Settings in the XMB, and set the controller to auto turn-off. If you go into the game, and play through a level, then pause and leave it until the controller turns off, then when you press the PS button again, you'll respawn back at the last checkpoint. However, you won't lose a life in the process. It's just a teleport. So you could potentially use this as an insta-redo in acing a level. (If delayed by ten minutes.) And I have actually aced a level after I did this (unwittingly), so yes, it does work like that.
Uses would be if you accidentally miss a jump, a grab, or something that causes you to plummet towards your death, very close to the end of the level. Knee-jerk a pause before you die, then set down the controller and make yourself a sandwich. Come back ten minutes later, and jump back to the last checkpoint and do it again.

Interesting Possible Exploit - Er...Feature!

Haha, Never thought about doing that. But surely some levels would take less than 10 minutes just to complete them?
God Said: "Let there be LittleBigPlanet!" and so there was a reason to live in this world!

Well, yeah. The levels really aren't that long, especially when you get good enough to really blaze through them. (They seem to get a lot shorter than they were at first when you do the over and over and over.)
But if you're acing them, you may be on a really lucky life, and getting very close to the end, further than you normally get, and don't really want to go through the entire level again. If you've got a good excuse to go and do something, then stepping away for ten minutes and coming back is a viable option.

Erm, why do you have to wait lol? Just hold the XMB button just before you die, turn off controller and turn back on as soon as ya pop lol.

Lol, someone posted almost the same thing, a week or so back. Th difference was that he said to just turn the controller off manually, which turns out to be a lot faster.

In theory one is aware that the earth revolves, but in practice one does not perceive it, the ground upon which one treads seems not to move, and one can live undisturbed. So it is with Time in one's life. ~Marcel Proust, The Past Recaptured, 1927

Thought about this some days ago, but didn't care much for it, really. Nice find, still.
