    Default Lights and their attributes

    Hello all,

I am working/experimenting on a submarine level, where the submarine is able to light up it's environment.

However I have problems getting the effect that I need, I want a pitchblack environment where only the subs lighting is used to explore the environment:

I tried a spotlight, however spotlights only light the layer they are located in, which isn't good enough because the player cannot really see anything at all because the spotlight simply shines at the next wall and stops there, you can't even really see that wall as it is lighted from the side.

I tried a LED light which is basically the lighting I'd need (it does light other layers and also a bit of the sides of walls. However LED's light up a whole circle and cannot be used as spots (only lighting in a cone ). I really need a spotlight-kinda-light because I don't want the sub itself to be lighted by the light.

So in short: I need a light that has the properties of a LED light but can be used as a cone-beam type light ?

    Any ideas?

(I can try to snapshot some screens tonight to make this more clear)

    Thanks in advance

You might try playing with the light bars along with a spot if you desire the effect of the beam. With the light bars you can at least tweak them so they are invisible, but can add a nice glow to a scene to help mimic what you are really wanting.

    Good luck!

You could experiment with strip of invisible holo and row of invisible LEDs to achieve that effect.

Why use LEDs when there are lightboxes that can be tweaked to be invisible? Am I missing something?

There is also LED that you can set invisible. So both ways work.

I didn't see Jwwphotos post as I were creating mine and I didn't suggest those boxes as I weren't sure if they worked same way as LEDs that OP mentioned.

    So you aren't missing something.

It's not just light boxes, all lights that act as decoration can be set to invisible, so this includes also the that new LED light and bee anthenna too (which it's interesting since it shakes on movement) and probably other future objects like that that you may find in DLC

    Hi guys, a quick update:
I couldn't find the decoration led, or any led that I could have set to invisible.
So I went for the lightboxes, attached several of them (to somewhat form a cone shape) to invisible holo, set their diffusion/foggy setting to 0 and used a foggy beam light to define the light beam shape.

    WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!

Thank you all for your inputs.

  12. Thanks!

They are in the lights section in your objects bag with the rest of the lights when sorted into categories. They aren't classed as decorations, though they do behave like them. When you tweak them you have to scroll to the bottom to set whether they are visible in play mode or not.
    Code:

However, do not forget the thing that there is a scientific side in all the one.

Thanks for this I was having a similar issue with light. I need the same sort of cone of light for a flame thrower, given flames don't have any light properties, oddly enough (or if they do, it's too dim, and you can't tweak it). So I'm gonna go for that option, now that you've tested it and got it working

Edit: Oh bah I thought It'd work, but fully black box when the light should be off isn't going to help my cause D: Ah well.
