Thread: Refuse Ridge

    Default Refuse Ridge

Hey lbpc! I got a new level to present.

Refuse ridge goes in a bit of a different direction that my previous platformers, but I believe it will still feel like a platformer of mine.

    Anyway hope you enjoy. Thanks!

Played this last night. Very fun and clever. With all the high-tech doodads available in LBP2, it's fun to see some good, old-fashioned mechanical based platforming once in a while, and several sections of this reminded me of that.

One thing though, speaking personally, I would've liked to see an extra checkpoint thrown in here and there, but I also suck, so maybe it's just me. Either way, fun level with visuals that are complete garbage (Get it? Garbage? Refuse? No?).

  3. Thanks!

Great level lock, I have been looking forward for you to realease another level and i have to say youve gone into a new direction this time, your characters were amazing and the hole theme was great. You used the tubes very well and it added more depth into your level. You used some nice new lbp2 effects you didnt use in your first level, and i'm gald you decided against sackbots. It becoming a race was a great idea, though a anothe idea may be you could give and option because i really wanted to loock at your awesome level with out the tick, tick, tick. Anyway the of a compliment than anything else. But great level, and i cant wait for what you might make next!

    (Get it? Garbage? Refuse? No?)
I think we all get it

  5. Thanks!

I really had a lot of fun with this level and recommend it to anyone. However I did feel as though you reused some objects too many times. Still, there was a lot here that I've never seen before so overall this doesn't really matter.

Hehe it was great! The only upgrade I can think of would be some different music, as I think we are all pretty tired of LBP2 music from playing it so much already!

Hearted you to see what you do later!

You JUST hearted him now? Ive had him hearted ever since the first time I played Granite Gardens, a LONG time ago in the days of LBP1...

Anyway, I loved this level Lockstitch, just like everybody else. It had great platforming, great gameplay, and a great theme. Glad to see your not one of those uncreative dunderdeads you creates magical forests or lucious caves over and over, always using the same decorations, theme and style. Even with LBP2, you still manage to create contraptions that leave others wondering, "howd he do that?" I must say though, of your levels it is probably one of my least favorites, which sounds way worse then it actually is; its a fantastic level, and Im saying its on of my least favorite of the greatest. I still rank you as the greatest platformer ever. Its like between bacon and ham, ham is my least favorite. theyre both amazing foods, but of the best and the greatest, theyre has to be the least of them.

Really cool level, Lockstitch. You once again come up with amazing obstacles and top notch gameplay.

    VISUALS:
The details of the level looked really good thanks to polished materials and stickering, and the toy car and wooden horse are well made too.

    SOUND:
Great use of "The Cosmos" interactive music.

    GAMEPLAY:
The grappling hook obstacles are very good. What a great way to use them for switches and moving objects. Man, the grappling hook obstacles in this level are even better than my recent level, "Cybernetic Adventures Beta".

    OVERALL:
Another platforming masterpiece with unique obstacles and creative visuals. A yeah vote, a heart, and a positive review.
    New level project in works:
    LBPV Level Series Project (TBA)
    LBP2 Final Platforming Project

Well so far I've played this one three times and I can see myself playing it many, many more.

Your work is always eyebrow raising in it's innovation and craftsmanship and this one is no exception. Really loved the pace of this one especially. The race aspect combined with cleverly set up layer shifting and momentum driven platforming made it exceptionally fun to play for me. Masterful use of the hampster tubes too - great color work on those too, played nicely with the colors of the crushed cardboard background. Very soft palette of colors in earth tones were a smart choice too, really made me focus on the platforming and geometry of your level.

Thought the subject of the level was a bit sad (poor toys) but the way you designed the RC car and horse were playful and sweet. I especially adore the shuttle embedded in the wall.

Nothing bad to say other than in multiplayer some of the momentum based sections are tricky but that's insanely hard to pull off so it's a minor nit pick - shows how perfectly you've designed the rest of the level that that's all I can complain about. lol

Gave it a smiley and hearted and I'll be back to play it again. Wonderful experience, thanks Lockstitch.

Stumbled across it recently, and loved it. The level wasn't too extraordinary in and of iself, but I liked the solidness of the work.

I think the level was made in a very solid fashion. The puzzles were creatively designed and fun to solve, the graphics and sound are very fit to the general theme, and there were no game-killer bugs that I encountered (I have a strange tendency to fall foul of those, even with MM picks). A pleasure to play, and, in my opinion, a textbook example of a good platforming level.

What? This was his best level! (I prefer ham myself). This is an astounding level. It takes grapplehooking to a new high. It as usual for you had multiple innovative sections, that made me say wow. Any level it does that once is awesomesauce. This did it at least 10 times. I've now played this level about 8 times because it is so fun!

Personally I think this is one of your better levels.
I think an optional race would be awesome.
    Some suggested improvements:
    - "she will show you the way". I was looking for the horse throughout the level, ha. Perhaps: "she will show you the way out" would be better?
To be honest I didn't read the text with a fine tooth comb this time, so I may be wrong here.
    - After the W shaped 2 stage rocket grapple, the tube hindered my speed by hitting the T shape on 3/3 attempts.
Very minor as the player can probably move left, but I feel the player shouldn't have to move while in forced bouncepad sections, but that's a whole other discussion.
    - Now the "button throws you up" part. Why not have an easier safe button push at the start to introduce the push-up mechanic?
    - The "big" lever part. I thought this was a bit of a departure in the momentum focused gameplay that preceded it.
In all parts previous, using the momentum increased the players speed and score. But now I have to simply grab onto this sponge and wait?
I would wager I was not the only one trying to fling myself up to the top left.

I too am sick of that music, I'm guessing it was used by MM in a level which is tough to ace.
The characters (car, spaceship, horse, etc) were great, I much prefer that style when compared to your older characters.
The tube visuals were interesting also. I am a fan of junk yard style levels, visually I think this one is way better than MM's sackbot factory levels.
One of the best things about you and your levels, they are all of consistent quality, thanks for continuing to create for us.
Looks like this first of your levels I have hearted, ha. Boy I'm picky.

    Bad design 101
