Here is my last level, a project that i just played with for quite a while and that i've decided to release in a playable form.
My main source of inspiration where the side-scrolling beat-em up like The Final Battle. The rules are simple : play through the level and beat down the evil ninjas under the great wall!
Features:
- Lots of sprites that i created myself for the main characters and the enemies in the level
- Simple but functional fighting logic with punch, kicks and the ability to block the enemies' attacks (The logic was quite a pain to make)
- 2-D style background with a lot of detail.
- Custom music, even though it's just my first attempt at making music.
Pics:
Please notice that some features of my level (like the sprites and their number) cannot be changed so i may not be able to use all the feedback received. Still i'm looking forward some helpful insight.
As i usually do i'll return feedback to everybody who helps me out. Thanks in advance.

Hey Vergil, glad you enjoyed Emeria.
Really great job. The title screen was nice the dragons looked great. Really enjoyed the music track and the sound effects. The animations were pretty good too! One thing I might suggest is to make the environments a little more "8-bit," it was mostly the brick wall that bothered me (the texture.) I feel like there's a bit of a disconnect between the (great) sprites and music and the world. However this is just my opinion. The environments do look great however.
Perhaps create a boss ninja at the very end because I felt like the action was building up and then the level ended. Perhaps he would throw something (reminiscent of the shuriken ninja) that you'd have to block repeatedly until you could get close enough to hit him then he'd knock you backwards (rinse and repeat). Not sure if this is possible , but just a thought.
I really enjoyed the level, those were just some thoughts. Keep up the good work. Thanks for your level!

Thanks a lot for trying it!

Regarding the boss, i actually have a version of the sub-level with a boss at the end. The problem is that i ended up running out of thermo also on the sublevel so the boss fight is currently rather rubbish, with a couple of rather prominent issues, so i decided to cut it out for now. I'll try to find a way to put it back in in a decent playable form.
Thanks again

Great emulation of those old school kung fu side scrollers such as Double dragon. Really captured the 8-bit vibe and gameplay. The animated characters were spot on with a nice variety of enemies, clever how the R1 block rebounds the shuriken at the sneaky ninjas on the upper ramparts. Good implementation of the life pick up on route. Didn't manage to finish due to my playtardness but will return because of the fun nostaligic gameplay. Would like to see more in this style maybe based on the 16-bit streets of rage or revenge of shinobi. Great work.

Very cool level you have here
It really did feel like a classic sidescroller from the good old days of gaming and it made me miss the weekends at the arcade. The look and feel were just awesome, the background and character design were spot on for those classic beat em up games which always inevitably had ninjas in them.
For the gameplay, I think there could be a little more commands to spice up the gameplay and add a little more variety to the game, maybe some jump attacks or something. But other than that it was great, good job on this

Thanks a lot
!
I'll try to play your level EnochRoot as soon as possible, hopefully today if i can.
I'm happy somebody noticed the block-rebound move to kill the evil ninjas above
Adding more moves is something that i wanted to do originally but the logic is already quite overwhelming with a simple kick-punch-block setup. I'll try to look into it though
.
Thanks again

This is weird I swear I posted somethign on this thread, but perhaps I forgot to hit post. PLayed your level, I liked the backgrounds, the way they scrolled. THe blue wood seemed a bit out of place, perhaps a neon set to blue at 10%. Also I saw one part of the wood with a seam. Good speed and responsed with the bad guys and the player. Could not tell if I was getting hot or hitting the bad guys at times, got a bit confusing if I was crowded in. Like the ninjas up above, very nice use of the block feature. Had fun kicking my way through, eating soup, and then getting to the boss like level. In that sub zone, I really could not tell if I was doing damage at one point, and got stuck for a few seconds when I was over swarmed. Liked the door to get out. Oh and noticed the bad guy's eyes or something appearing below before they fell down. It was just a couple little dots that would appear before they fell over. Like the theme and set design, very nice work, was fun playing.

This level actually made me laugh a lot. I sort of miss playing these games and I really miss the retro music and you gave all of that here. The music is well done, its not over done or epic, but it sounds just like a retro game. Also I loved the sound effects the characters made
. The buttons were easy too since it was just like a NES but this had a block buttion. It's pretty amazing what people can do with LBP2. The only thing I had issues with is the ninja star guy, I could never find that window to get past the stars
, but maybe you made it like that. Anyways, yayed and hearted. Good job

Thanks everybody

@celsus: while i was creating the background i knew i couldn't make everything holo so i decided to use wood for everything, however partially using holo to do the sky could be useful, I'll try it later and see how it looks. The small lights appearing close to the enemies is actually a bug i knew already, but i can't seem to fix it
The logic handling the holo pieces is exactly the same, but only those 2 pieces light up earlier.
@galaxyinapot: Happy you found it fun
i made it a bit silly intentionally. For the shuriken ninjas, as The Don highlighted you can defeat them by blocking the shurikens. They will then bounce back and hit the ninjas. Do it twice and the ninjas is done
. I made those shurikens fast on purpose hoping that eventually most players would try to block them rather than evading them.
@The Don: Hey
! Since you're on LBPC i can return feedback straight here in your latest level. I've seen your suggestion on the level and i guess i could add a better feedback about giving or receiving damage.
Thanks again everybody, i should be able to play with LBP 2 later today and try your levels

Good level. It certainly does feel like the fighter game.
VISUALS:
The charaters well made and has good 8-bit animation. The backgrounds looked pretty good, too.
SOUND:
Good custom music and good use of ninja sounds.
GAMEPLAY:
The controls are simple but easy, and the blocking the ninja stars part are accurate. One thing that should possibly be fixed is that the ninja star floats for a few seconds after I blocked it and defeated a ninja.
OVERALL:
It's a fun old-school game. A yay.
