Wooden Isles. by valmassoi
Deep in the valley of imagination the Wooden Isles rest. Collect combos, jump, swing, climb, and survive in this little platformer. Find your way back to reality, no matter the cost.
It's been a long time level showcase, 6 months!
So I'm finally done with my new level: Wooden Isles. It took 3 red screens, an evil joystick from hell, 12 backups, and 1 full corruption to bring this to you guys, so I hope you enjoy! Some of you may find the survival at the end really immature and dumb, but keep in mind I made that part when I was slap happy. lol.
Big thanks to all my beta testers. (VJ, Silver, Cory, Random, Eagerneph, Woodbury...) and Xenon for invisible material
And be sure to tell me if you find any technical errors, because I'd like to fix those pronto! I'm aware of the lag when you get some of the bubbles, there's nothing I can really do...
F4F goes to the first 3 people to write me a good paragraph.

Wow. What a comeback. There was so much to like here. You've got a fun little level here. It even has a survival challenge at the end! Just an overall good job.
Stuff I Liked
The platforms on pulleys were a nice twist on the classic challenge of wobbly platforms.
Exellent aesthetics.
Stuff That Can Die in a Fire
One of the jokes reminded me of a level I lost to profile corruption.
Meh
I never really got all the Glockenpop hate.Story Levels:
Memetic Hazard, Memetic Hazard Remastered [1/2], Wizard's Spire
Survival Challenges:
Surviving the Dollhouse, Crazy Eight [SURVIVAL]

I like the length and difficulty.
Getting a high score while trying to not make any mistakes will be fun.
The bird at the end should be an interesting chaos factor too.
I will be playing it again to see if I can at least keep a top 5 score for awhile.
Well anyways it def gets

from me.
Update After playing it a few times:
I had some very slight lag around some of the wheels and the fireballs.
No big deal as it was still fun to replay the level.
Tried to figure out the bird's pattern to survive on that part a long time.
I failed, good job on that.

Since I need to get to work on my level, I'll make it short.
I loved this level. The sticker work is amazing.

D'oh Crap, that makes 3, I'm too late for the F4F :cI like the length and difficulty.

And about Glokenpop, well I don't think that hurt or helped your level.
I was compelled to make jokes about it in a level too.
I decided Taffey had already done that joke and so well and all so...
Well anyways is def gets

Where'd the Poop go?
-Well, at one point, the bird stopped pooping. He showed up, but didn't poo...Did it just get awkward or what?
The Goodies
Gotta Love Those Aesthetics!
-Who knew you could do an awesome sauce job at stickering. Well, I failed to recognize your adorning talent up until this point. Anyway, great job on ALL the visual detail Mr.massoi, you did a bang up job.
Apprentice of Awesome Gameplay
-Very awesome gameplay you've got here, fun and involving. Almost as skilled as Dr.Jonze...Almost, heh.
Dream/Nightmare Concept
-I personally enjoyed the Dream and Nightmare concept. Though it only really beckoned at the end.

The survival challenge was a bit stale, but it's the first one I've ever made, so...
Sorry bout the lag, gluing bubbles automatically triggers that, and you cant detach bubbles once they're glued to a thin layer. Nothing I can do..I like the length and difficulty.

And there is no pattern to the bird

Hmm that's weird his explosive excrement didn't show up that time, I'm not sure I'd know how to fix that.
Yep. I'm pretty sure a lot of the newer PSP people have never played any of my levels, so i wanted to make this one really good. I'm glad you noticed the aestheticsThe Goodies

lots of work went into that.
About the Nightmare... I wanted to change palette of a colors and make it look "destroyed" in a sense. But when I wanted to do a survival challenge, I kinda dropped it and went all awkward and weird :P
Uhh.... Thanks!

Alright, I already played through most of the level before due to beta testing and it was too good to pass up playing the full level.
This is a really good level, val, and the aspect of this level that really stood out was that the stickering was outstanding. Not only was there a multitude of stickers, but, visually, the stickers were balanced and consistent. The stickers really mixed well together, and it didn't look like you just stuck a bunch of random stickers together and hoped it looked good. Now, your bubble combos were well placed, then again, it isn't much of a surprise due to your bubbly series.
Speaking of gameplay, while the level did feature mostly simplistic gameplay, you still included some nice gameplay elements with those wheels.
Finally, your boss was impressive, but a little difficult. I really couldn't tell where he was gonna attack and died immediatly. I think it would help if you had an indicator before he actually drops the bomb. Although, it may just be because I suck at that.
But in conclusion, impressive sticker usage, fun and simple gameplay, and addicting bubble combos.
Obvious 5
