    Default PS3 buzzing noise?

Hi, I tried searching on google for an answer but couldn't find something that fit my exact problem. then tried searching here and, well, the search here is still broken lol.

Anyway, whenever I insert a game into my PS3, it starts buzzing- if I eject or turn the system off, then it stops buzzing. Seems to be any game I put in, and I don't know if it allows me to actually play the game (I haven't tried in fear of screwing something up), but I can see the disc icon to start playing the game.

So, does anyone know anything about what I'm taking about, and any fixes or whatever to my problem?

    This statement is true.

I would hypothesize and say its fine, since the PS3 can apparently read the disk, but its best not to take any chances--or quote me whatsoever.

I found a ton of results when searching, but the solutions and circumstances for the buzzing varies...It might help if you listed the model of your system since the ps3 has a ton of models and maybe how long this has been happening. Im not PS3 expert, but it may help the more knowledgeable users to help you out.

    Good luck,

Well I don't think it'd affect it at all, but I'm using a 40 gig from 2008. And I think it's been happening for almost a week now, I just took a three day vacation home from college so it didn't affect me those days.

Maybe your PS3 is getting older and starting to complain about everything... Like my stabilizer.

Maybe the PS3 is getting shaky in the disk area? The disk could be wobbling around in there and causing a noise... If your PS3 is over 3 years old, then this is probably the issue. After 3 years, they tend to start breaking down. Depending on how often you use them...

If you could donate just $5/month, that would be awesome. Don't know how long I can support this on my own... :I I'd say less, but $5 is the minimum they allow... >.<

When I looked up the loud noise my old PS3's fan was making, I saw a video where some guy's disc drive was buzzing really loud, and it was vibrating his desk.

Although, for him it was only a certain DVD that did it, due to it being a thicker DVD for some reason.

...Then he had another video out a few months later saying his PS3 died, but this sounds like it's most likely a different problem.

Anyway, uhh, I'm not sure if this is right or not, but you could probably try and see if it makes a difference. If your PS3 is lying down horizontally, try sitting it up vertically. I think I heard somewhere that it's better because it... Holds something in place better... I think.

My expert analysis says that the buzzing sound is most certainly Not Good™. Have you tried yelling at or insulting it? Perhaps both?

Joking aside, there are only a couple ways to fix it, really:

    1) Try opening up your PS3 and voiding your warranty(?) in hopes of finding a solution (most likely related to some loose part in there rattling against something it shouldn't be.) You'll probably have to do some extensive internet research on this one, and the results could be catastrophic or incredibly simple.
    2) Contacting Sony and paying some exorbitant fee to repair it, which may not be worth it in the end.

Or you could just do turn up the volume on your TV and pretend it isn't happening. Seriously, though... I hope you find a solution.

Ha! that's how I fixed my truck! I just turn up the radio real loud. rattle? what rattle?

Rawk, when's the last time you cleaned it? The insides I mean. I ran the fan test on mine a couple of months ago and couldn't believe the dust that came out. Low powered vaccuum cleaner, put the hose to the vents and suck also works well.
More info is needed I think. What kind of buzzing is it? Can you hear the buzzing through the tv or is it just in the unit itself? Open it up and see what you can see. The warranty is long gone by now, right?

Can't void your warranty just by opening your PS3 up. You can change the HDD (legally) and you need to open it up to do that.

Instead of sending it to Sony, take it in to your local Geek Squad (Unless you don't have one...) and have them fix it. If you don't have a Geek Squad in your area, just take it to your local electronics store such as Best Buy.

Don't need to open it up to change HDD, it has its own access panel.

    Well, I stood it up vertically... more or less, it's kinda slanting against the wall... anyway, that seems to have taken care of it, there's no more buzzing aside from the usual ps3-on noise. So I hope that's that then. Would have been a shame for it to go down on me right before batman ;-;

Sounds good that you've managed to sort it out - I had a similar problem with certain DVD discs, but I don't think it happens anymore.

Might be an idea to back up your PS3 though - just in case!

Had a similar problem myself for a while that I discovered a cure for; don't know if it's the same but in my case it was a ground loop caused by my cable TV's coaxial cable sharing a ground path with the system. Symptoms were horizontal lines scrolling up the screen and buzzing and the cure was simply unplugging my cable box whenever I played (a surge protector would also work in this case, but it costs more) though again, I don't know if you're in a similar situation.
