Default That thermometer goes up pretty darn fast...

Is it me, or does the thermometer (the representation of maximum/available space for your level) go up...quick? Mm has said you'll be able to make big enough levels, and that you don't really need to worry about that, but after seeing plenty of videos, it goes up pretty fast.

However, I'm thinking the capacity/limit for these levels was greatly reduced for the public demos. Hopefully the full game will have a slower-growing thermometer.

    Thoughts and opinions?

MM has to cater to the level creators, the level size is going to be pretty large, but I don't think you'll be able to create the Great Wall of China. I also think that the thermometer is smaller in the demos than it will be in the real game. (or maybe I'm just hopeful)

It also depends on which crater you create your level in. Each one has a different size limit.

They are probably only allowing small craters for demos.

    ...I didn't know about this.

So basically, if I have say, 5 "big" craters and 5 "small" craters, I can make 5 type of levels for each respectively? ... We better get like 100 craters, then.

from what i heard, lbp in all the videos is run off of a special sd card. so that could be the reason that the meter goes up fast... not as much room as a blu ray disk. i'm 100 percent positive that they gave much less room to work with in the demo then there will be in the official release...

No you get about 10 craters total. About 3 small, 4 medium, and 2 large. That's a guesstimate, but I'd say it's near accurate.

Also, the thermometer goes up a lot faster when you use custom images, as they must be saved into the level as a whole. When you make a level, a "blueprint" of it is saved which, when downloaded by other users, is then rebuilt into the same level. That's why level sizes are so small.

So does 10 craters mean you can only make 10 levels in total?

Yes, but think about it: The moon does not represent online storage space, it just represents local. Once you upload a level to the servers, you can delete it locally and it will remain on the servers. All you'd have to do is browse your own levels and play it. That way you can be working on up to 10 levels at any one time.

Also, I'm almost positive you can move your LittleBigPlanet save information to an external storage device. Here's what you could do:

    1. Save another copy of your current game.
    2. Move that copy to external storage.
    3. Load the original save file.
    4. Delete the levels stored.
    5. Fill that save file up with more levels.

If my reasoning is correct, if you repeated this process you could have an infinite number of levels.

Oh, ok, that makes me feel a lot better, thanks.

If you think about it THAT way, then 10 levels is quite a lot.. I'm surprised it is not more like 3 levels at a time.

Keeping the number small helps the creator prioritize what levels he/she wants to work on first.

    Optimism FTW!

So, are we finally sure that it's local save space? That still doesn't make sense to me.

It makes perfect sense to me:
    • The Moon = Hard Drive
    • The Planet = Servers

I'm as sure as I can be without hearing it from Media Molecule themselves.

I still find that lame if i am understanding this correctly. Why can't we create and store as many as we want onto our PS3's. I mean i would think you should only be able to upload 10 levels in the community online but for private use on your ps3 you should be able to scroll through hundreds at one time cause it is not online its on you ps3. if i am wrong please correct me and let me understand but 10 at one time and having to transfer them out is lame.

somewhere I heard the large ones hold up to about an hour. I'll try to find it.

aer0blue, the video with the thermometer is from a work-in-progress build. You should disregard any details such as the rate at which the thermometer goes up, as it will most probably not reflect the rate at which it goes up in the final, retail build.

Adding on all of this that has been said, the question has been answered twice before.. please do a search next time, and also, theres a theory that when you put a piece of a particular mertial in the game, the thermometer will go up a fair bit, but you can use that material alot without it going up much more, kind of like an initial loading chunk for each material.

    Thats just a theory though.

you know the moon that go's around lbp that's where all your stuff gets saved before published and inside 1 of those craters there is like a cats footprint 1 big circle and 3 smaller ones now idk what happens when you publish you will probley get that spot back again but there looks to be 15 craters 15 x 4 = 60
so but like i said you might get them spots back after you have published

this is not proper info but frm what iv'e seen on videos this is my perspective

Still, what about players that want to play with their friends OFFLINE? I don't want to be sticking my External Harddrive in and back out every time I want to change levels... Sigh. This is a bit disappointing. Having a 80GB, you'd think you could make all the levels you wanted...without hassles.

Yeah, this makes no sense. I'm going to have to disagree with you here, Cartman, unless you've got a link proving otherwise. I really can't believe that they'd allow limitless uploads but limited downloads. Every single other web service has a limit to uploads. None that I can think of (beside Mega Upload, RS, etc) have a download limit.

I didn't say they allow limitless uploads. I know for a fact that they will limit uploads, actually. I was just saying you have way more room when you consider upload space.
