Mrs. Sackson was murdered and you are the perfect man for the job of finding out who did it. You are about to leave your office when you receive a call from the lady at the diner. She tells you that there is a suspicious looking character hanging out around the diner, so you head over there to check things out. This is based on those old detective movies, so naturally it's in black and white. I placed four clues throughout the level, and when you find a clue your score at the end of the level will be higher than if you just ran through the level. For some reason the screen shots came out in color. Oh well.

That's weird, how did the screenshots come out in colour if you made it black and white? :\
I'll check this level out, it looks cool

It's a mystery ain't it?
Anyways, about to play the level right now, I'll give you feedback when I'm done. I have no levels I want feedback for soo yeah...
--------------------
Okay, just finished the level. I'll post my thoughts.
The good;
-The level was executed perfectly to match the music, the theme, the idea of having it black and white was awesome, and there wasn't any moments where I couldn't see where I was going.
-I loved the story you had, I don't know if I found all the clues but I found 3 hidden spots and I found his murder weapon.
-You went all out on detail, you had the level match any murder cases perfectly, everything from the billboard signs, to the street lights. It was really nice, and I applaud you for your work.
Some suggestions;
- Okay, since this is an intro to an upcoming series, I can ignore the fact that there wasn't much platforming, the only hazard in the level was where the lady was throwing her tv and lamp out the window. ( nice touch by the way )
- You should do something like how Linque has his level set up in Treetop Escape. Have it so each clue lights up a light at the end near the scoreboard, telling the player how many clues he missed or if he found them all. A small but great addition.
- A few of your speech bubbles had some grammar issues, you probably missed it but the speech bubble where it says and I quote " So I headed off to the diner. Mabye on the way i would find some clues."
I'm not sure if you had any others but it's really a small fix but it makes it look so much more professional, might just want to give the text a re-run.
Overall though, I really liked the level, even if it was just an intro and didn't have much platforming. It makes sense since you kind of want to build up the story. Good stuff, It's a really nice level.
5 Stars and hearted, you the creator as well. Congrats

Thanks!

My thoughts as I go through the level:
- Looks really cool.
- Wow! Really! The aesthetics are great! Though the car could use some work.
- The cat is really really hard to jump on the brain and not die. You might consider moving the ears back a bit, maybe?
- Pretty fun level, but all together too short. Though finding all the clues does add great replay value.
In theory one is aware that the earth revolves, but in practice one does not perceive it, the ground upon which one treads seems not to move, and one can live undisturbed. So it is with Time in one's life. ~Marcel Proust, The Past Recaptured, 1927

Those aren't grammatical errors, they're punctuation errors.
BTW, awesome level. I'll give you detailed feedback when we play.

Amazing level, I even dressed up for it. The level did have a very classic mystery feel to it, but there were some things that I felt could have been better.
The desk, chair, fan [nice touch], and book case at the beginning, if you're going to make everything big, make everything big. The beds, trash cans, tables, stools, booths were normal sized [compared to Sackboy]. I just felt like I had walked into "It's a Small World."
The car driving backwards. Maybe you could just have it start driving forward when you walk down the stairs and park where it's needed. Not a big issue, but I first saw it driving backwards, and I was like "wat."
You should decorate the scoreboard at the end.
Rated 5 & hearted, anticipating part 2.I don't do F4F! I'll still give feedback on your level, however.

Hi Sonic5411,
I had the chance to play your level last night and i would like to say you that it is one of the most visually impressive level i saw so far. I detail why:
PROS:
- Use of N&B: It fit perfectly with the theme and the design of your level. The first time i tested the N&B effect on one of my level, i thought it was a bad N&B effect. In fact, i now thought it was simply unfitting with my theme. You show me here that this filter is a very good one. It give a very unique style to your level.
- Custom content: there is a lot of custom content with a lot of details in your level. I loved a lot the desk of the start. I liked your dogs so.
- Your game design is very well done. For exemple, your building at the end of the level is complex, but you easily find your way.
SUGGESTIONS:
- Lenght of the level: I think your level is very short. I understood you certainly have in project to buil a serie of level. However, i prefer when levels are a little more long, even in a serie (there is just less levels in the serie).
- Your cat was hard to kill.
- The car at the start of the level: How can you construct a so beautiful scene in N&B in the desk and put this (sorry for the term, but i really think it is out of scope of your level) UGLY CAR? It is clearly in need of reshaping and details.
Finally, i was sixth on the scoreboard, and i gave your level 5 stars, hearted and tagged "Splendid". Great work!
Your level was a great time of play and i look forward to your next production.

I am going to address the length thing. I would have loved to make it way longer because I myself love long levels, but because of all the detail in this level, the thermometer would only allow what I have. It is FULL!!

About the car. It is very ugly. I made it at the end of production on this level and got lazy. That was my mistake, and I am going to fix it today.
I don't know when you played it, but I did fix the cats, and they are much better now.
I am glad all of you guys like it so much, and I love the feedback. I am taking everything you tell me to heart, so just so you know: I am listening.
In the future tell me if you want feedback on your levels because I don't know which of you even have levels.
Thanks.Last edited by Sonic5411; 01-03-2009 at 11:39 PM.

Loved it man. The look was perfect and the music that accompanied it was even more perfect. Your attention to detail was great, ranging from your lamps, to the dumpsters, to the look of your buildings. Also I loved the girlfriend/wife throwing stuff out of the window and especially liked your cats and dogs haha. Suggestions:
-yeah your already fixing this, but the car was really lame. Although I really liked how you implemented it.
-As aformentioned, we need some sort of indicator on how many clues we've discovered at the end of the level.
- I had no idea how to get the bubbles in the warehouse. But now that I think about it, it's probably a sticker switch isnt it? lol
- in the secret passage with the cat that goes towards the murder weapon, you can jump a little to high (out a window?) and land in some gas. It was kind of annoying trying to kill the cat and then promptly find yourself flying out the window into some random gas. Kind of seemed out of place, but it's your call on this part.
So yeah, overall it was really great
If you'd like to give feedback on a level, I suggest you check out my Sin City (Final Version) level. It uses a somewhat similar colour and kind of has the same feel as your level (sorta). The link to the thread can be found below.
Bravo!

I agree, a very cool level; loved the noir theme and the way you put it together.
Is there something out that window in the upstairs bedroom, where the cat drops down? I tried quite a few times to go up the steps and get those bubbles, but every time I jumped, instead of going up I went flying out into the gas (that automatic level change jump thing the game does was really annoying).

5 stars and hearted, (really, really liked The Final Frontier too).
Keep it up!

I might be on later tonight, I'll check it out, you still doing F4F on this? If you are then I wouldn't mind a little feedback on "The Collector's Workshop"?

(search for my psn Sismna, coz there will be thousands of "workshop" levels)
