Thread: Temple Trials

    Default Temple Trials

After 4 months of endless visitors to my moon always asking the same question ("So are you going to publish it now?"), I can finally say this is done.

So, what is this level all about, you ask?

It's a survival challenge, but I've moved away from rotating circles for a change. It takes place in a chamber in an ancient temple. You start at one end of the chamber, and must cross over the rising spike pit using the blocks on the back wall to get to the other side. There are 56 random patterns of blocks to form different obstacles - some are static, some move, some have bounce pads, some require you to grab and swing across the ceiling, some are impossibly difficult.

When you get to the other side of the chamber you jump on the big button to reset everything, and must then make your way back to the other side. You have 3 lives, and the obstacles will get harder and harder the longer you survive.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped out through playtesting, logic assistance and suggestions (and of course those of you made a couple of obstacle patterns to add to the massive set): Luos, Clay, ZeusInTraining, Holguin, Fotosynthesis, Byiro, Chimpanzee, acdramon, burton18000 and anyone esle I've forgotten.

If anyone has any feedback, particularly on the difficulty (really hard to judge it when you've played it so many times), I'd love you forever.

Oh, I'd also recommend playing in single player. Multiplayer does work and is a lot of fun, but may be a bit buggier and certainly laggier.

Sooo.... has anyone here actually played this yet?

Anywho, here's some behind the scenes pictures of the logic behind this level which I posted on Planetarium:

There's 56 of these sticker panels. These are emitted in front of the blocks, which have tag sensors connected to in/out movers or an emitter to spawn a score bubble. So wherever there is a tag on the sticker panel, a block will be pushed out or a bubble will be spawned.

And this is the randomiser logic (you can see how half of it doesn't even show when all the circuitboards are open). Each board is a different difficulty group, which is activated throught a sequencer (there's a bit of overlap, so for instance groups 2, 3 and 4 are all on at one point and then 3, 4 and 5 and so on, so that you still get some easy ones mixed in with the harder ones and vice versa).

  9. Thanks!

I experienced a little bit of lag but not so much that I didn't enjoy it. I only played it once but it was good. Four months...holy cluckinbell.
