Default Ray Mears' Volcano Survival Mini Game

Hey, don't ask about the name lol, this is a short mini game where a volcano is erupting and you have to survive for as long as possible, and each 30 seconds the difficulty increases and you are rewarded with bonus points

This is the second level I made which I feel is almost up to scratch and just need a few opinions on it, is it too hard? is there anything else I could add? Can anyone spot any bugs? Anything I can put in to make it look cooler?

I have been thinking of adding a bonus item or two, maybe creating a safe spot for a couple of seconds if you get it but am not sure at this stage.

I'd appreciate some feedback on this one as I'm quite proud of it so far

    Here are some photos:
PS. Photos dont show lights for some reason (the actual level looks a bit more exciting than these lol)

    Hi turnipeater, here we go:

    What I liked:

    - I appreciated the idea and found it original
    - I appreciated the hard work behind the level

    What you can improve:

    - I survived more than 2 minutes simply standing in the middle of the volcano, I collected a smaller amount of bubbles, but after a minute i managed the same way to get a 4x...
    - The notification of time passed is unhappily allocated, try to make it smaller and place it in one of the top corner BEHIND the falling pieces of lava
    - The ground is flat so the lava falls and do not move for quite all the time, i personally think that a smooth V shape (or something similar) will make the trial more challenging, to avoid points bubbles to roll simply try to make them appear floating near the ground level in groups of 3 or 4 and later also 5 or 6, and make them last a small amount of seconds so you are forced to move if you wanna score some points.
    - For the lightning effect you can do it the way I did in my levels with a very small amount of memory despite of the shape and number, if you are interested (give it a look first: they are placed at the end of Miglioshin's Fantasy adventure ch.1 or at the very beginning of Miglioshin's Fantasy Adventure ch.2) just add me in your friend list and I will be glad to share with you my lightnings.
    - It would be nicer if the pieces of lava will be different sizes

Obviously all what I said is IMHO

Rated 5 stars (IMO the effort counts more than the result) all the 4 times I've played, can't tell you the tags 'cause I'm not sure how they are translated in the ENG version of the game (I'm ITA you know...)
Also hearted the level and the author (to help with the gold trophy ''CREATE'')

For the F4F I would prefer you to give a try to M.F.A. chapter 2 'cause (despite of my efforts) it has received 2 stars and I really can't figure out why, I think it is challenging but not really so difficult or impossible... (3 weeks of hard work... sigh sigh).

  3. Thanks!

    5 Star/Heart Tag - Fun

I rather enjoyed this level for what it is. I'd like to know how much time you put into and if you would consider expanding on the idea. It played perfectly and I thought was a fun challenge. Would be cool for something else to happen if you survive for a while. I lasted a bit over a minute. Like you said, some bonuses would be cool if possible. My only suggestion is to make the fire rock a bit more eye popping. I think that the rock is on two layers, I would cut the rock in half and glue an equally sized fairy light to the back half of the rock in the first layer. Then I would change the light to foggy and adjust the radius and brightness to desired. Then lethalize the fairy light and the front half. It'll all glow and be firely exactly like you have it. Try it, if you haven't. I know the engine can get a bit fussy with a lot of lights but, I'd bet it'll work fine with your setup.

    Really tight little game.

  5. Thanks!

Fixed now, the middle of the level is a bit more difficult later on in the game as more lava gets ejected

Moved the notification to the corner of the screen behind the lava

I have decided to leave the floor how it is but have made the difficulty in the middle more difficult to make up for it

I absolutely loved the lightning in your level, thanks for sharing, have had a look at the post where you explained it and will give it a go at some point!

I am going to leave the lava the same size for now, just to make it a bit more predictable, may get too hard if I start changing this

Fantastic suggestion, gave it a go and I love the results! In answer to your other questions I have spent hours on the level, cant count them exactly but must be around 10 if not more lol. And yes I would consider expanding on the idea though I am not sure in what way I want to do this...

Again thanks for the suggestions guys, feel free to give it another play as I have published all of the changes above!

    PS have hearted you both

Just to let evreyone know I have put up a new update this time with a paintinator so you can shoot the lava out of the way, its pretty good fun and doesnt take away too much of the challenge, let me know what you think!! You get the paintinator after surviving for a minute

    That was really fun.

I really enjoyed how it becomes very hectic and I gave it a few plays through.

My only suggestion is to create a bit more depth in the background (if possible). Some flames or something like that would make it a lot more fierce.

Sorry I don't have much more feedback, but I feel there's not much more you could add to the level :P
Thanks for the great level man.

Hey guys, I have now submitted this level to the Survive This! challenge and would appreciate any feedback you have regarding the level so that I can make amendments over the next couple of days! Thanks for all the comments so far, they've really helped shape the level!

    PS. Still doing F4F

I was playing this level the other day and I have to tell you, I was completely addicted to it. I tried really hard to get the top score but finally gave up after getting third place because I'd realized that I'd been playing it an entire hour! Looks like I've been bumped to 8th now!

All in all, I really don't care for survival type games, but this one really got me hooked and I'm not sure why. Simple, yet challenging... and I really like how the challenge picks up fast so it doesn't keep you waiting through the boring initial stages for long. Bravo!

If you get the time I'd appreciate some feedback on my levels too! Thanks!

Edit: I made it to first! I know it won't last... but woo! I'm happy
