Sensors are awesome. They detect stuff, and you can tweak them. What not to like?
The answer, is the area. It works pretty well, as you can tweak Max and Minimun distance, but sometimes, it just doesn't work. It's either too big, too small, the angle is annoying...
The solution? A new option for all sensors: Type of Area! It let's you select between having the area as a Circle or a Rectangle.
The Circle would be exactly as now. The same tweaks and so.
The Rectangle would work exactly like the area trigger from cameras. You move your stick to make it bigger or small. Just like camera triggers. You should also be able to select an area of no detect, like circle. You would move and place it like rectangle triggers, but inside a trigger.

Would be convenient to have the option, I think rectangular would actually be more convenient.

While I agree this would be convenient, there is a simple workaround. Place four player sensors with 180 degree radii. Place them on an invisible piece of material (holo works fine) so that the straight edges of the angles form a square. Attach these outputs to an OR sensor and you have yourself a square sensing radius.
Or just do the impact sensor on holo method.
