I was wondering what happened. I came back and the server was down.

It is back up now.

It keeps going back up and down. Most notably when I sign on and land on the chunk that is full of two people's worth of exp.

Yep, that is the issue.

Or we make a lava pit and take turns jumping in it every so often.

Are you sure it's the same one Flamento posted? There's a few comments on this thread saying it worked perfectly.

oh-em-gee jiru! It seems you missed some of your stronghold. It contains an underground ravine, a library, and a mine. O.o

First, is anyone else experiencing chunk errors, especially on the edges of biomes?

Second, it seems to me that the abandoned mines I've found are buried deep underground rather than being exposed to the surface. Anyone know if this is a bug or a feature?

Kinda seems counter-intuitive to have a natural cave system open up to an abandoned mine. Especially if that cave system is closed off from the surface (i.e. no caves lead up to the surface), which I've found.

And I have yet to find a stronghold or village after rendering a half-dozen worlds or so.

Any ideas?

Yes. I assume you mean the ones where you can see though the world but are free to walk on in a stable manner and not the classic "world holes" of SMP.

It's a feature, however this only applies for the wooden mineshafts (though they can be seen from the surface if inside a ravine). The Strongholds are much rarer (3 per map, and a map may be up to eight times larger than the surface of the Earth) but do have surface openings which are easily visible.

It took me ages to find a village and I am yet to find a stronghold, but my best advice would be to keep exploring and searching for flat biomes, as these are the only places villages can spawn.

For strongholds, I'd suggest... keeping an eye open.

Yeah, I play Minecraft exclusively on SSP. SMP sounds like fun, but I'm not sure this game is the type I'd like to play as multiplayer. I'm much more interested on the single player side of things, and basically use Minecraft to satsify the same itch I had when I used to build forts out in the woods when I was a kid.

Yeah, the terrain generation seems to leave big holes or giant walls every once in while, most notably around desert or mountain biomes. Forest, swamp and grassland all seem to spawn just fine. And once the ugly biome threshold is crossed, the biomes themselves appear just fine. I'm fairly certain it is the chunk rotation error (if my limited research skills are correct) that is back in full force.

So. I can't play minecraft online with my buddies on my favourite server. Only one thing for it.



(For those of you who don't know why this is, there is a crapload of exp in the chunk I was last in. Now whenever I spawn, I end up falling into the void for a moment, with immense lag, before getting kicked off the server...
