I don't get the difference between 12w30e and 1.3pre, because both are the same thing. There are no new features nor bug fixes on this version.

There were a few bug fixes, not very much because they were released in such close proximity. 1.3pre is the final version that they're releasing on August 1st. They've already started working on 1.4 now.
