I've been trying to get people to play tekkit for over six months... I've hosted three tekkit servers, it is just that nobody wants to play. And why make a new thread? We could just use the group, make it public. We can then update anything. A mod can edit a link in to the group in the first post.

That's a huge bummer, The whole point of me putting the betas of it up on here is so that you guys can play it while it's still all unfinished and bare. So I can get actual feedback, and get people on this thread involved in making it better.

Doubt it'd be an incentive to download a bunch of mods and go through the rigamarole of installing them. Especially when you'd have to do it again every update, however sparse those may be.

Except you wouldn't. Because it uses an entirely seperate launcher that requires no .Jar fiddling, AND updates it for you.

Hrm. I'm less inclined to do so now, because JoshOfSouls (One of our four moderaters, or two active ones) is unable to get it to run.

If he can find out how to make it work, I think it'd be a great mod to get for the server. Otherwise... :I

How is this thread more convenient? We could have a general discussion in the group, and separate topics so you don't have to sift through the thread to find things. It is basically like our own sub-forum. Otherwise, I see no point in a new thread. If you really want to update the OP just have War do it. People are still going to ask what the IP is no matter if it is in the first post or not. It is easier for us and them to just tell them the IP rather than telling them to read the OP.

I agree. But it should be for Memodrix to start up, seeing as it's his server! It would make sense to see him as the first poster :P

Anyway, I was talking to Kernel, and he introduced me into Tekkit with this video;



I didn't think it'd be too great an idea, because everyone has to faff around installing stuff.. but it only requires a unique launcher, just like spoutcraft did. It adds a ton of ores, machines and things. So much more for people to discover, work out, work together with, collect and build. I think if we're looking for an incentive to draw people to the server, then this is it.

This mod is fun and all but it seriously ruins the whole point of minecraft. You can build an item called the converter (if I'm not mistaken) and you can convert EVERYTHING to ANYTHING you want. You can convert dirt into stacks of diamonds if you had enough of it.

The fact that you have to download a bunch of mods is also another reason I don't think it's a good idea. You can argue that it can all be downloaded through a launcher but the launcher is very buggy and it doesn't even work for some people. It took me a good day to get it to work for me. The launcher is also buggy in the sense that Minecraft seems to crash more frequently when using the launcher. I've also encountered sound problems when using Tekkit, I have to restart my Minecraft and Tekkit so I can hear again.

So basically, I don't think it's a wise choice, but I don't really play on the server anymore so it's your call.

I also don't like the idea of starting a new thread. We've built this one up so much and it has a lot of great memories. Why start a new one just because you want the information on the first post to be relevant? Do you seriously think anyone even clicks on the first page when they click on the thread? Even if you're a new member you're probably going to start at the last page. No one is going to read 400 pages of a thread (unless you are Mags).

I agree with Whale, lets not put tekkit on Memo's server. If you have a dire need to play it, I'll leave my server up. I also agree about the thread.

It's more convenient in that people don't have to click through multiple discussions to find what they need. Most people probably won't even bother checking the group because it's so far out of the way of the rest of the forum.

The reason people ask to be PM'd the IP so much is because of this:

Do most people not read the first post, then skip to the last post? I'm genuinely asking this, I thought that was common practice for large threads such as this.

I thought it would be a good idea to make a new thread because, to be honest, it's not as if it takes that much effort. And it sort of bugs me that the OP is so outdated. I'll settle for War at least editing the IP into the OP though.

The problem is I get 4fps when using tekkit.

On Imgur today there are people saying Tekkit is illegal because the Tekkit people aren't modders, they just collect the hard work of others and combine it into an easier to install format. That's illegal because most of those mods come from adfly links apparently.

I don't get how that's illegal. Shouldn't it be illegal to make money on a modification of someone elses free work? Help me out people.

Well, now I CAN'T wait for that. I thought I could, but I'll have to play SSP to hold me over but with how much better it's going to get, it'll seem SO BORING!

EDIT : Oh right. I was going to say I had the most successful day of fishing in SSP yesterday ever. In the span of one minecraft day I caught twelve fish without moving. And that was about fifteen blocks east of my house that I built on the spawn point. ^-^
