Default My Little Pony: Invasion of the Changelings

Hey everyone! After over a year of working/procrastinating on this level, I'm proud to say that I'm finally finished (kind of)! There are always ideas to expand the level popping up, but I thought this would be a good time to put what I have out there and get some feedback.

This is a side-scrolling shooter based on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. There are three separate playable characters with three different levels of attacks each, different defense mechanisms, and unique special attacks. I tried to make it as intuitive as possible, but here are some helpful yet unnecessary hints, anyway (read this while the level is loading?): Keep the sky clear of clouds to increase the frequency of air balloon support visits, but be careful not to touch the rain! Rainbow Dash's (the blue one) defensive dash not only makes her invincible, but also does damage to enemies. Fluttershy's (the yellow one) defense ("The Stare") only scares away Parasprites (for now)... Parapsprites are the small bug-like enemies that come in groups. Derpy's (the grey one) level one/two attacks can be charged if R1 is held down. The yellow meter in your HUD shows how much stamina you have left; if it drops to zero, you won't be able to use it again until it refills. The blue meter in your HUD shows how long you can use your defense for--Rainbow Dash's can only be used when the meter is full. The number in your HUD is your attack level. If the white hexagon under it is filled in, then you can use your special attack. There are three gems: heart, shield, and wing. The heart adds a small extra bar of health on top of your standard health bar. The shield increases the length of time you can use your defense and reduces time to recharge. The wing allows you to fly using boost indefinitely. The shield and wing gem's abilities will be removed if you get hit. The heart gem remains as long as you still have some of the extra health bar filled. Avoid running into other sprites to reduce lag.

Well that's about it. It runs very smoothly for me, but I'm afraid it might not for others. So let me know about lag, any other problems or questions, recommendations, or just whether you liked it or not!

I should say that this is a Tad under-sold in the thread, I have seen a few iterations over the time it's been worked on and it has amazing sprite animation, some well thought out power ups and even though I haven't really seen the show it's well themed.

Also it has some epic logic behind it all :P

EDIT: It does take quite some time to load for me though...

Haha "epic logic." You would know considering you either helped or taught me how to do about half of it all. =)

I suppose I could build it up more, but I think the pictures say more than I ever could. I've tried my best like so many other creators have, and in the end all I can hope is that people give it a chance and enjoy it. If not then that's okay, at least I had fun creating it. I just hope I can get some constructive feedback so that I can continue to work on it and only make it better from here!

And I was worried about the long load, but unfortunately I really can't edit down anymore. (At least not in any ways that I know of.) Do you know about how long it took to load? Just out of curiosity.

  7. Thanks!

Wow, the sprites on this level are awesome! Felt liked i was playing an old arcade game.

To be honest i've just read the blurb int the intro and realised i missed out on all the details of different ponies and attacked/defenses etc i should clearly play it again.

Very slickly done, to fun with loads going on and loads of power ups and stuff. The amount of effort gone into this is amazing. Well done! Game play is great and no walk int he park - just peronnally, i would have liked X as shoot and for it to have a more rapid fire rate.

    Great level!

Seconded, if there was an option to view the powers I missed it, but happy to play again. Also agree with egg about the fire rate, up it a tad and I reckon it'll feel better.

Qd it right now - this looks mental! I'll be back to edit my post soon EDIT That was mental! So much going on I really cant be too critical here, other than it would be great if the music played sequentially as there's enough to think about without changing the music tracks. That said, I thought it was funny, the animations were awesome and theres enough variety going on for plenty of replay value. Big heart on this one

Thanks for all the feedback! I really appreciate it. I want to remind everyone that I am doing F4F, so if there's a specific level you want me to give feedback on, just let me know.

I'll also be sure to get on those suggestions. I have been wondering, though... is the level too difficult? Having had made it, it's hard for me to tell what others might find too challenging. I'm noticing a lot of scores around 20,000, while I'm getting bored and quitting at 200,000 lol. I want there to be a learning curve but I don't want it to be frustrating. Also, how's the overall progression? Since I'm not worrying about changing backgrounds right now, is there enough variation in the enemies?

Edit: Changed the music to play sequentially, added the option to use X or R1 to fire, and adjusted the fire rate for Rainbow and Fluttershy. The reason I didn't adjust it for Derpy (the grey one) was because of her shield and charge abilities. Just trying to keep it balanced.

I found this game when I searched "My Little Pony" in the Most Hearted section.

My god, this is the best Pony Related game on LBP2 by miles. I liked being able to play as Derpy. :P

If I could give some suggestions:
*Have the HUD shown by default
*Use sticker panel instead of hologram to reduce lag
*Show the controls in-game instead of the description, because some people don't read those.

That's it, apart from that, perfect!

  17. Thanks!
