    Default The Puppetters

Alright guys came up with this idea, It will be a level where your sackboy is literrally controlled by the landscape (as if the puppetteer is actually controlling you)

    Story... So far

You are a sackboy and as you are wandering around (yeah really do not know the opening, but I would hope you guys could help me figure it out) anyway, you get to a place where you can choose between 2 paths, Good and Evil. Each has its very own puppetteer which control people. The Evil one trys to convince you that the humans have been controlling the sackboys for their own gain and it is time for all them to take action and enact their revenge upon the humans and destroy every last one of them. The Good one then trys to convince you that the humans have trully been protecting all of the sack people from harm. The humans have been nothing but good to the sack people. And that we, the sack people have no more right to live than the humans. No matter which way you go you will soon find out that the 2 puppetteers are brothers (the good, older, and wise one. and the evil, young, and reckless one); and you find out that the reason why each side wants you so bad is because you are the chosen one, Unlike the other minions of the puppetteers, you have free choice and because of this you are extremely valuable, because you will bring an end to one side (either you will bring an end to all Evil, or you will bring an end to all Good).

When you take the good path you take the "Stairway to heaven" (when you take the Evil path you take the "Highway to Hell" to the place where it is all explained to you) to which point the situation is explained and you come back down from heaven to destroy Evil, to which a battle (where each of the minions on each side are raised with winches and each one goes to attack each other, and the puppetteer outsmarts the its counter part and sends you in and you attack from behind and kill the other brother) Now if you chose the good side, the good puppetter realizes that no one should have this great of a power so he decides to sacrifice himself for the greater good and for all of the human and sack person race.

Just as a reminder You only have to move in the beginning, after that you choose your path and then you no longer have to move your sackperson and the level moves you for you (that is why the puppetteer "controls you" because you are not doing the moving)

Tell me what you think, help me out with story if you have any addons or any advice or anything with help. And i hope you like this idea of mine. I hope to finish the story for this level this week. After that i want to start the designing of the challenges and brainstorming for that, for the next week. Hope you guys can help

    Cheers!

That sounds like a very cool concept. You could have the sackboy in one of the predefined sackboy shapes, and then attach strings to the arms and legs of the shape to make it move around by the appropriate puppetters hands. That could be a good way of visually showing your participation without being active.

I look forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Actually, i came up with this a while back and thought it would be pretty cool, it was one of the factors that made me start the Set the Scene contest, it was that and the fact that we thought of a bunch of stuff without knowing of switches like this but just by using the physics engine what we could do. And yes you could help me if i ever needed it, thanks for offering

hmmm... i will think about it but I am doing 2 full stories in one level so the each of the movements of the puppetters are going to be completely different and it would take A LOT of switches to move the figureine around like that... hmmm maybe i could have the strings connected but not have them directly corralate to any of the movements, and just make it an illusion. hmmm... well then i guess i could just fake it with the thin piece of material inbetween 2 glued pieces. and my concept is one where you do nothing and the level (puppetters) push you through the level personally... hmmm well thanks for the help, if you have any suggestions on how to make things work (really just working on the story right now) or on the story to make it more involving and all of that.

    Cheers!

Sounds cool, but let me get the straight.. it's more like a film?
I don't think people are going to enjoy that as much, not having control =\ You should free it up and let them roam

Oh no not like a film, In the beginning there is the intro, and you have to travel to a volcanoe so you can come to the Puppeteers Crossroad (its where you make the choice between going the good path or the evil path), then after that the Puppeteer will "control" you through various obsticles. Believe it or not, people will like it because i have seen proof of basic concept, Lord Canti won the contest using a concept similiar to this. (i was actually hoping someone would do that kind of concept, but he got no advantages while i was judging though because of it), but I am leaning towards using invisible pushers, and invisible barriers, to move you through dangerous environments. Kinda like those rides at amusement parks where you get in like a "flying car" Hard to think of exactnesses here but hey that is a pretty good example.

Ahhh.. I see, this sounds pretty cool, as long as the user is in control most of the time or the scenery is fantastic then it should be fine!
    If both then amazing! Yah-Tah!
