We're a match made in heaven!
I always play the other guitar section, COOL! I must really move to Canada.
I like how you keep the hand position during the verse, I always do stuff like that with heavy staccato lifting my fingers while doing it, because the second section of guitar B is the same as first part of guitar A.
And I never get that bar dive in the solo that good.
Really chirurgic way of handling the stuff, while I'm a bit more rough.
LOL at how we both pull faces...
A synched guitar solo from us 2 would be a complete LOLLast edited by OmegaSlayer; 05-20-2011 at 08:47 PM.

Yeah... I probably look like I'm having apoplexy during those triplets, haha. My rhythm chops are a little rusty after being away from a guitar for nearly three months this year. So I'm gritting my teeth and giving it as hard as I can. I've spent a lot of years working on cleaning up my playing and trying to economize everything, since brute force only gets me so far.

Anyways, you've got solid chops, so whatever you're doing... it's working. You know... if ever you do decide to move... we'd be a dangerous team and probably make the other acts here in town sweat for their money. My bassist just got an offer to fill in for a local band and open for Obscura in July. He's mad excited....Last edited by Thegide; 05-21-2011 at 12:40 AM.

This was from almost 3 months ago.
And that's a lot...it was 9 months after I picked the guitar back after 7 years.
I'm working hard to get back, even if I can't practice with the consistency I need.
It's 2 weeks that I'm practicing only on the acoustic with steel strings and it's helping a lot in cleaning the picking and make it precise.
I decided to not play the electric until the end of June and see if my hands have taken back some strength.
I've never been a legato monster, but a 7 years hiatus made my hands slower and weaker.
While I regained the speed, I haven't got my strength back.
But the hardest thing to get back is self esteem...when you see that you can't pull out anymore the stuff you could do blindly...that sucks...worse than when you so want to learn something and can't reach it.
I always considered self esteem to be the primary ingredient for a musician.

If chops is what you need, grab your metronome and start working your way through Rusty Cooley's Shred Guitar Manifesto and The Art of Picking. With a hiatus that long, you need to reprogram your muscle memory. I feel lucky that I was able to put the guitar down for a few months (longest stretch in nearly 20 years) and picked it up with only a week to get back to speed.
All you really need is determination and a training plan. I inevitably pick something ridiculously hard and start grinding away at it. When I can finally pull it off cleanly, it's all the self-esteem I need to keep on going. Having a friend at least to play with is also another big incentive. I'm only motivated now because I'm trying to put a band together once more.

I have always worked with the metronome.
I have found Rusty's stuff. downloading it
I also am rebuilding my body since I got fat and I'm getting back to shape, so yeah, really lot of work on muscles.
Even my fingers had become fat.

Hey guys. I've been playing for around 2 years now. I'm starting to practice sweeping, but I can't seem to sweep back up at all xD. Sweeping down is easy, just coming back up feels so awkward and annoying. . . It puts me off
. What exercises did you guys do when you first started to sweep?
Penguins are Teh cutest ;D

Hm...my suggestion is to throw off the pick for a while

Yeah not joking. Take a minor and a major position on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd strings like
15-12---------12-15
------13----13-------
----------12----------
and
12-8------------8-12
------10----10-------
-----------9----------
and start practicing them only with hammer-ons and a pull off on the 1st string.
Then when you find enough comfortable with that start to use the pick again.
Then move on and add a note on a 4th string and so on.
This exercise will help you a lot at keeping every note clear and will help your brain to not rely on a common downstroke/upstroke when you'll have to execute more complex and unusual sweeps where you have like 2 notes on a string like
---------------------10-11-15-11-10-----------------------
------------------11-------------------11--------------------
---------------12-------------------------12-----------------
------9-12-13-------------------------------13-12-9-------
---10--------------------------------------------------10----
11----------------------------------------------------------11

I started with 3-string arpeggios and practiced my sweeps slowly and to a metronome. The key is to try to separate the notes rather than having them blend together. Make sure you lift your fretting fingers as you sweep through the pattern, resisting the temptation to hold them down as if you were strumming a chord. Then, work your way up to 4, then 5, and 6 string shapes. Slow and clean is preferable to fast and sloppy.
On the downward sweep, you will use your fretting hand to mute the top strings. When you're coming back up, use your picking hand to mute the lower strings.
Use your neck pickup

Gotta record and upload something this week end.
If my left wrist stops to ache.
