**** man that is a sick *** set up... wow im impressed i've only been playing for a year but i play like a machine so i've gotten quite good quickly....
deffinitly plan on playing until i die as hard core as i have been. currently working on getting some buddies together to start practicing to do some covers out at some bars or something just for fun i would love that.
here is the amp i'm prob gunna get http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...Amp?sku=480945
reviews seem awesome and i havnt heard anything bad about ibanezz im going to try to find some pics about my guitar or just take some when i get home tonight
[Edit]: @snrm you don't really have to read notes you can tabs if you want thats what i am doing. i plan on learning theory / sheet music later
[Edit2]: Also the paint style of your bottom axe is almost just like mine except mines like cherry red main style w/ a darker red...actually the body is very very similar your pick ups look nice though I'll prob get some new ones for mine w/ tax returns along w/ the ampLast edited by Hamsalad; 02-04-2009 at 12:11 AM.

Back when I was in high school I was bugging my parents to send me to Berklee. I used to play about 3 hours a day then. Needless to say, things didn't turn out the way I liked so I never got to go. Sometimes I'll still play for 8 hours in a day, but those days are more and more rare since work and school keep me far too busy, not to mention video games are a total distraction :P All in all, I don't think I'm as good as I used to be, but I could probably get back there with only a few weeks of hard practice.
Anyways, I've been playing for about 17 years, and teaching on and off for the last 3. The best advice I can give you is practice a LOT and go and get professional lessons. Even if you don't *think* you need them, do it! Find an instructor who is interested in teaching you what you want to learn (not what they think you should learn). You will save yourself years of learning by doing so, that I promise.
If shredding is your thing, you should check out a guy by the name of Rusty Cooley, if you don't already know him, that is. As far as I'm concerned, he is the godfather of modern shred and has nearly inhuman technical ability. If you're in the Texas area, he also gives lessons^^.
I can't comment much on the amp, since I'm no longer familiar with amps in that price range. But if you ever need buying advice for guitars or high end gear let me know.

ya when i first started playing i worked at this store by myself and it was slow as hell...i had my acoustic and i would literally play all day for 11 hours and probably even go home and play some more, so you can imagine why i progressed rather quickly..
currently i am taking lessons, the guys great but i don't just want to go in and be like teach me this song; although it is easier to learn from someone i'm more interested in techniques / scales.
ive had quite a few lessons where i learned that some times i tell him to teach me a song for fun but i've been messing around w/ the pentatonic and different patterns w/ that as well as learning the major scale and a dimished scale.
and your top guitar kind of looks like an ibanezz jem but black. I really need to keep consistantly giving it at least an hour of practice a night i usually always do but i work my *** off and like to chill w/ friends so ill usually get home and stay up later than i should practing.
working on sweep picking kind of now not as much as i should really hit the bricks on that.
and that name kind of rings a bell not really though, I know hes not the founder but bucket head shreds to what appears to be unrreal. i bet is were hes at and still practices at least 4 hours a day

It IS an Ibanez Jem! I don't think they make this model anymore, but it is a 7DBK. The body is contoured so that there's these bumps all over the surface. It feels like someone dripped hot wax all over it. Very cool finish! It's got screw head inlays for fret markers and DiMarzio Breed pickups instead of the Evolutions that come stock on the VWH (white /w gold hardware) model.
While I absolutely love the Jem, these days I favor the ESP simply because of the different sound of the pickups. The Breeds are very hot, but solo playing on the EMGs is much more fluid, so they are more forgiving.Last edited by Thegide; 02-04-2009 at 12:44 AM.

Oh! Might I recommend an amp
I have the Kustum Dart 10FX, which sounds amazing with all the guitars I have used it with! I got it for about £30 (about $44), which was an amazing offer! Only a practice amp though...

Hey, there's some real guitarists here!
I'm mostly self-taught, no real skills yet.
I just have a cheap, old, black Squier Stratocaster with a small, discontinued Marshall AMP. I don't get to play much recently because of my long travel times and LBP.
I like to play mostly old tunes from the NES and SNES. I've tried my hand at playing some Punk Rock, but my gear and technique just don't give it a good sound. I also like to play some more traditional-sounding pieces, like the Tristram theme from Diablo 1 and a couple of other songs.
I have a friend who's taking guitar lessons. Hopefully when I get some more free time and get back into playing, he'll be able to hook me up with some good tips.

I taught myself, some of my friends took guitar lessons and said it didnt do anything for them. Teaching yourself just requires patience, time and passion!

i taught myself for quite a while....and ya most lessons people offer are you go in and its like ok what song do you want to learn?
and that really doesn't do much although its easier to learn from a person you could look up tabs for a song on your own.
now at most my lessons i make him teach me technique and different scales so its working pretty well for me i feel im taking a lot from it.
also thanks for the reccommend but i think im going to get one big enough to play out with...for a practice i was going to get this fender one that lets you record your own riffs and plays it back in a loop also has preset drum / bass loops. so if you want you can record your own rythem riff to the drums / bass and make up your own lead parts...its pretty awesome
