So yeah, very little of the review has to do with the game, pretty much the norm for ZP lately. Don't really know what else to say, I'm indifferent to his reviews nowadays.

Funny, but ignorant. People who don't create can't seem to grasp the concept of creating something and having a limitless playground to experiment and build in without consequence is a game unto itself. One that has infinite play and replay value. It's like having an infinite supply of every Lego Technic's or Erector set piece in history of the universe and being able to physically interact with them on any scale, without having to imagine that pieces can move or are "doing stuff"

The 40 levels in story mode by themselves, combined with the beautiful physics and graphics engine create what is one of the greatest 2D (-ish) platformers ever, which already negates the idea that user-made content is too much of a hassle to wade through for the game to be of any worth.

He should shave his satire for games that deserve it, and truly are mediocre.

I think really he's hoping to get a rise out of people, seeing as every other critic pretty much fell in love with the game.
There was a major upset when he took Smash Bros down a few notches, but the main difference is, Smash Bros has a much bigger following than LBP, and, not to try and start any arguments, but Sony fanboys as of late don't seem to be as touchy as other console fanboys (might be the lack of them now?). Actually, fanboys in general seem to be keeping their mouths shut from what I've seen on most sites.

I think he's starting to fade into obscurity again, none of my mates really give half a **** about what the chap has to say, and I think "picking on" a game like this was an attempt to try and get back into the limelight.
Main problem is, he's being far too tame, he never seems to outright hate a game any more, just shows a mild dislike. And at the end of every review, you can't work out whether he was trying to say it was good or not.

I love Yatzee's reviews even if they destroy one of my favorite games. For him, it isn't worth the price tag since he doesn't create levels or know how to find the good ones. For me, it is since I have both of those disadvantages removed.

I'm a ZP fan, so I can't hate, and it wasn't really that he was trashing the game, just omitting the idea that the create mode adds play value. That's something that alot of editors and reviewers have done IMO... and I'm just used to ZP thrashing mediocre games.

I posted this on 1up, and they say any press is good press, even bad press... but one person did say "Am I the only one getting tired of this guy?" - so you might be right. He maybe just needs a fire goin'...

I usually get a really great laugh out of his reviews, and I sorta did this time too... The eyes on the boxers was stupidly funny enough But it also gave me a better understanding I think of why it is some people don't even want to be shown the game... Because they probably have an impression of is similar to the one he does. Just watch the segment where he talks about the difference between his and Media Molecule's visions and you'll get why he doesn't like the game!

EDIT: Oh and another thing, see alot of the negatives he brings out seem to indicate he hasn't played the game for very long, especially online. For example, at first the controls are a little wonky, but you get used to them with enough practice and of course it's hard to find good levels, until you've spent enough time in the game to find people you know heart good levels, then you go and check the stuff they hearted, heart some of it yourself and other can check you out for your hearted levels... Works fine for me!

That's the whole humour of it...

The great thing is that he run out of things to say Meaning he had few bad things to pick up on and blow out of proportion ^^

I don't, and that's true... but like I said, stick to blasting mediocre and terrible games that warrant the satire.

    DING! DING! DING!
    We have a winner!

He praised the story mode which rocks, and as there are many levels equally as good out there I'm sure they would receive big sloppy kisses as well - but you have to wade through the slurry to find them, or cheat (AKA forums). Seeing as I doubt he ever visits a forum that doesnt have giant posters proclaiming his brilliance its unlikely he ever truly LOOKED for good user content.

I like ZP but I never take it seriously anymore, hes found his niche (game bashing) and hes good at it. But this talent makes him lose all credibility as a reviewer. Still bloody funny though.....actually thats going downhill as well...

Cheers to Alp for the sig and Zim for the Avatar!

I've never even heard of this git before, but after listening to his mile-a-minute ramblings that for the most part were vague and un-informing, I'd certainly never click on any link directing me to his self-indulgent rhetoric again. It's not that I even care that he doesn't seem to favour the game (everyone is entitled to their own opinion after all), but this guy is just annoying to listen too. It might be that it's part of his "schtick", but it's been done before... and by others who are actually intelligent and funny. The only thing I took away from listening to this thief who stole six minutes of my life that I can never get back (now nine minutes after writing this response), is that someone needs to get him a prescription for Ritalin.

Thanks for posting this though, now I know better. lol
Take your copy of LBP3, put it back in it's case, wrap it up in some nice holiday paper, and stick it under your tree in hopes it will be fixed and playable by Christmas morning.

DEVS - If you want to know what's wrong with your game why don't you just throw a copy in your machines and play it? Just a thought.

I thought it was great... it talked alot about the game... and umm... chocolate and stuff.

The only real point I agreed with was the fact that majority of levels made by people are made by "tossers" and the levels aren't good. If I want to play a quality level, "I will just play the story levels" like this guy said... or I can just go play some of the quality levels made by people here at LBPC. =-)

Anyway, big rofl at the ending segment with the closeup on the boxers.

I agree. Some people think that the creating is going to be this big "hassle", but........

I think alot of us find that the creating is just as enjoyable as running through levels. I know I do anyway. It seems a little daunting at first, but everything tends to make sense and the in-game tutorials do a great job of explaining.

Some people just dont get that, though.

That's really what the story levels are, honestly... meant to serve as examples and inspiration; teasers for what can be done, and show you that you too can make levels. That's why nothing is hidden, and everything is a handholding tutorial every step of the way. The moral of the story at the end of the game is to get out there and play, create, and share. Not just to play.

Not viewing the create mode as part of the gameplay is like not acknowledging Sim City as a video game, or failing to count the sidequests in an RPG as part of the game. It's not merely some tacked on feature like creating your own character.

Even if I can't build a house, I don't go into a hardware store and say that everything is useless and serves no purpose. If I don't know how to play a game, and enjoy it, it doesn't make it bad. I can't understand Madden at all since it was 16bit, and have no interest whatsoever in sports games, but I'd be blind and delusional to not acknowledge how deep the gameplay is and how much replay value it has. There's wayyyyyyyyyyy more to it than running and pressing buttons and a million more modes outside of the regular season play.

I pretty much agree with everything you have wrote so far Ninja so I will keep it short. I personally did not find his style of humor funny and I am still trying to figure out who this guy appeals to lol.

I usually like ZP's stuff, and alot of this was pretty funny and/or true. Alot of press in general, and the gaming public, has bypassed the idea that the create-mode is part of the gameplay package and short changing the experience of LBP as stopping at the story mode. It's not even a knock against ZP, but as much love and exposure as LBP has gotten I still consider it underrated and underappreciated in some regards.

I completely agree. There's a mood to this game that I haven't gotten from any other game. On a microscopic scale, the experience of really digging into the create mode is a bit like pioneering any art or industry. We have this new set of tools to learn, and a new type of "creation" to experiment with. What can you do with it? What is possible? Is anything impossible? It's so rare in life to have that experience of REALLY exploring something new artistically and creatively.

LBP levels can be hilarious, they can be party games, mini-games, pinball games, RPGs, they can infuriate you, they can move you, they can inspire you. They can tell stories, they can be abstract, they can be poetry, they can be satire.

Once you spend some time in create mode and learn the limits, seeing what other people accomplish is just an incredible feeling. This idea of transcending limits and conquering challenges and venturing out into the "here be dragons" parts of the map - It's just mind-boggling what people accomplish using such limited tools. Being part of that is exhilarating in a way that most videogames can't pull off.

It's gotten me thinking differently, approaching problems and puzzles in real life differently. I tinker more now. I've gotten so used to bending and molding limitations in order to attempt to transcend them that this way of thinking is getting into other parts of my life. It's a great thing to get out of a game.

So that kind of bugs me when I see reviews like this that don't even bother with the create mode and have no particular care to REALLY explore the best of the user-created levels to see what people have been doing. All because you feel like playing the story mode gives you pretty much everything you need to know?

I understand that ZP isn't a really earnest review show, it's comedy and it's not going to be influencing many people's opinions on whether or not to buy a game or not. We watch it because it's funny and you've got to give it to the guy - he has a very distinct brand.
