Default Little Big Tower of Babel

Level: Little Big Tower of Babel

    Creator: MostEvilMilo

Description: The greatest archaeological find in centuries, the Tower of Babel is in danger! Can you stop the Merry Outlaw Bandits before they blow this lost wonder to kingdom come?

This was my very first creation... I created it around November last year (200. I never got around to posting it until now. Actually, I was considering posting this level before In the Belly of the Beast, but in the end I decided to post the latter first...

I know I'm probably going to receive a lot of flak for my heavy use of pre-made characters in this level... but when I made this level, I had no idea people would eventually develop such an averse reaction towards pre-made characters and objects. I really just wanted to make a challenging experience that players would enjoy and find memorable.

If you do get to try Little Big Tower of Babel, I hope you try to look past the pre-made stuff and just enjoy the experience.

And oh, the trailer and the images are once again a composite of two versions of the level... the "darker" images were taken from a level that you unlock by playing Little Big Tower of Babel. This unlockable level is basically a mini-level which pits you against the boss of the original. And it takes place at night. I actually wanted to change the original and make the entire thing take place at night, but my temp can't handle the addition of all those lights anymore.

Thanks in advance for any comments/reviews/feedback!!

I know what you mean about custom content. I thought "well there there to be used right?" but obviously not. In my latest level however, I'm immensly proud of a Tui that I've made. Haven't published yet though.

Some people don't want MM-made objects because they want creative content.
You're level looks sweet in these pictures. But how did you make the level dark at one point? Is that republished level footage?
Message me when you need feedback on your levels. I will gladly help.

Some people make a level by simply placing random premade objects. The disslike of MM stuff in user levels could result from that.
But your level isn't like that. I haven't played it yet but in the video it looks really cool.

I organize all my LBP ideas in a Google Docs folder. Feel free to have a look. I'd love to have some feedback too! http://tiny.cc/lbpvandoc

Although I do prefer using custom content, I'm not above using premade stuff if I feel it fits the level. Using the Mexican bandit in a cowboy-type level, for example, would be alright. Using the Mexican bandit in a space-themed level, however, would be totally stupid and inappropriate unless you have a good story to back it up.
What's a Tui? Sounds interesting, I'd love to play your level to find out, hehe.

But how did you make the level dark at one point? Is that republished level footage?
I didn't make the level dark. The "dark" level basically belongs to another level. Except that that "other level" was based on the original. Um... I think I made it sound more confusing. @_@
Well, to put it simply, the original level is daylight. Then I created a mini-level that features a very small portion of the original level. Except that this one is dark. I simply composited the two levels together in the video.

I'd actually like to replace some of the premade stuff in this level, but I'd really rather create a new level from scratch! hehe...

It is funny that you commented on my level, I was just about to check out your level when I saw that... Serendipity I guess...

I loved the level - 5 stars and a heart. But I expected that after your "Belly of the Beast" level.

    a few things:

At the 3rd bomb spot (after the jump with the up-and-down arrows) a piece of the bad guys body pushed me into the spikes which cause me to die obviously, but I was able to get back w/out having to platform back. Maybe either use more bomb material to kill the guy completely, or put a spawn spot at the bomb button so they have to get back...

For the level I am working on now, I am making most of the prizes things you have to earn, so if they go for them, they have to get back.

I loved the little sack picture so that people would know to look for treasure - I think I might use that I hope you don't mind.

    The boss btw, was awesome...

The only downside to the level isn't really a downside I guess. But in comparison to the extreme atmosphere you created in the Belly of the Beast, I thought the lighting in this one to be rather bland. For no other creator would I probably bring this up, but you did such an amazing job on the other level with the atmosphere, I figure that I should.

    Awesome job!

No problem man. Go ahead and use it.

I've been wanting to change the lighting. I actually want the whole level to take place at night. But that would mean adding lights, and my temp can't take it anymore. I'm not sure what I can do to free up space anymore, really...

Anyway, thanks loads for the feedback.

    Incredible! The tower of Babel!

When i was creating "The Quest of the great pyramid", i was thinking about making a level about tower of babel just after...then, when i finished the quest, i was a little tired with this theme to do it.
You can imagine how am I interested by your level. I will take a look to it tomorrow

Wow, if this is your first level and you haven't made significant modifications to it later, I'm very impressed. It's surprisingly well made for a first attempt.

    - I loved the use of various materials, they compliment each other perfectly, and the shapes you use (especially for the windows!) are fantastic. I actually went into create mode to learn how to reproduce those windows, they look perfect for a project I have in mind...
    - The story elements are fun and the end of it all is very satisfying as well, my only complaint is that the bandits keep saying "we've already rigged this place, yadda yadda" and you actually have to set off the explosives in spite of that... I sort of felt like a bandit myself after the first few. Maybe change those lines to "we're soon done rigging this place with explosives, you can't stop us, yadda yadda" or something along those lines.
    - The challenges of the tower felt very authentic and part of the architecture (well, aside from the giant cogs, that is... I'd replace them with something more... err... 2000 B.C. )
    - The boss looked very cool, but the battle wasn't very tense - you were perfectly safe in the middle, so you could prepare to deal with the fists at your own tempo. The left fist was kind of unforgiving, though, you barely had enough time to push the cannon under it to fire off a shot before it was squashed... I didn't mind, though, it was a longer battle this way.
    - While architecturally the place looked brilliant, I felt that it lacks some polish (of course if I consider that this is a first level, it's a non-issue, really). Some switches and mechanisms that could've been set to hidden were visible, and at times you chose weird ways of moving objects (the four piston-attached clouds come to mind). Also, some timed challenges (such as running to safety after pulling a switch to set off explosives) could've used some more tweaking, I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to survive one of them. Also, the Mm created objects were perhaps a bit too abundantly used, but they didn't feel out of place at all.

Anyway, this is a very promising first try, and I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your upcoming creations, I really like your design approach!

Very cool level. I had no idea what to do after defeating the last boss for a while (only one of the doors opened for some reason), and, like dobi6 said, the lighting could've been better, but, hey, this was your first creation.

Haha, yeah, that was the whole purpose of the level... blowing stuff up!!! XD

Thanks for playing. You have to touch the "three fallen stars"... These things fall to the ground when you blow up parts of the boss... They open the doors.

Thanks for the review Sny, I'll check out your level when I get the chance...

I remember playing your Omaha level and really enjoying it, here are my thoughts on this

+ A level with secrets is always good, encourages exploration
+ I like how you used the three planes
+ Nice setup for the characters and explosions
+ You like explosions, destroying the MM characters was great fun
+ Nice multipath options in the temple, I spent a while here making sure I got everything.
+ Loved the sections where the flaming cogs you chase back down the hills
+ I liked the boss, good use of the explosives to kill him

    - If you go to the right at the first secret you can fall off the end and get stuck
    - You can pull over the block after the first springboard in the temple, you don't really need to go and hit the switch
    - I had the same problem as people above, did'nt really know what to do after he was dead as only one door dissapeared. I treid shooting it with the cannon to no avail, in the end, after a bit of random jumping I managed to get through the gap.

I enjoyed playing the level, I love explosions and killing the characters was great fun, as was running away from the flaming cogs. The material choice and use was excellent but I agree about the lack of lighting, but understand due to thermo.

    Good job!

Good solid level.. I think the boss glitched for me... I managed to get through after a short while, without killing it!?

The chasing cogwheel sections were fun. Overall, I found it a bit on the easy side.
