    Default Game Update 1.25

    LittleBigPlanet 3
    Game Update Notes 1.25
    Release Date: March 17th 2017

    Summary

LittleBigPlanet Game Update 1.25 has begun rolling-out for some players today is scheduled to go live on *Friday March 17th at 12:01AM GMT.

What this means is that over the next three days, the update will become available to you all periodically but you won’t be able to install it until the time mentioned above. Meaning that once the install time of March 17th 12:01AM GMT is here, you can all install the new update without having to wait for it to download and can begin playing together right away!

Now on to the update itself…

This update brings Genres to LittleBigPlanet 3 – An exciting new way to find your favourite types of community levels!
Additionally a new Online Connection Quality Display system has been implemented to help Host Players monitor the connection quality of players connected to their game session and a number of improvements have been made to help improve community menu browsing.

Full details on all of the updates and fixes in this update are available below.

Important Patch Download Information for PlayStation 4 Users

Due to the way that PlayStation 4 updates software in the background, some players are encountering issues with game progression by attempting to access content that is not ready to be used.

To avoid encountering issues, we recommend that you check your Download Status before starting LittleBigPlanet 3.
This can be achieved by highlighting LittleBigPlanet 3 on the PlayStation 4 Home Screen, pressing Options on your controller and selecting Information.

The following screen will inform you of your current download status.

If the Download Status displays that the Download Progress and Download Size are the same (E.g. 1.2GB/1.2GB), your game is ready to launch with all of the features available to you upon arriving in your Pod.

    Update Notes 1.25

    New Feature – Genres

Genres arrive to LittleBigPlanet and can be located under the Community menu from your Pod Computer.
Selecting this new option will take you a familiar looking menu that has replaced all your classic community categories with a range of 23 different genres including:

    • 1st and 3rd Person
    • Arcade
    • Cinematic
    • Driving
    • Fighters
    • Gallery
    • Mini-Games
    • Multiplayer
    • Platform Shooters
    • Platformers
    • Puzzle
    • RPG
    • Shooters
    • Social
    • Sports
    • Story
    • Strategy
    • Stylised Platformers
    • Survival Challenges
    • Time Trials
    • Top-Down
    • Tutorials
    • Vehicle Shooters

Each Genre category will show the Team Picks for that Genre followed by the highest-rated community levels for that Genre.

Hint: Select a Genre. Press R3 to open your Filters menu and deselect the Played filter to hide any levels within this Genre that you have already played… Just perfect for finding new levels within your favourite Genres!

Don’t worry though; your classic Community Menu isn’t going anywhere and you can locate it by selecting the Recommended option that is displayed on the same screen as the Genres option. Selecting this will allow you to see all of your old-favourite categories such as Team Picks, Level of the Day, Most Hearted and Recommended For You!

    New Labels

With the arrival of the new Genres, we have added a new range of genre-defining Labels that Creators can add to their published creations or Reviewers can select as a recommended Label to describe the level.

These new Labels have also been added to the Filters menu that can be displayed by pressing R3 in any Community Category under either Genres or Recommended to allow you to Filter for community levels that have your chosen Label as one of its most selected Labels to describe the level.

New Feature – Online Connection Quality Display

The Host Player of an Online Multiplayer session can now view the Connection Quality of other players within the Manage Players screen of the Pause Menu or by pressing R3 during gameplay.

A player’s connection rating will be displayed as such:

    • Three Green Dots = Good Connection
    • Two Amber Dots = Okay Connection
    • One Red Dot = Bad Connection

LittleBigPlanet 3 uses a peer-to-peer network connection system for Online Multiplayer and the Host Player can use this information to help them determine if any other players connection quality will have a negative effect on the multiplayer experience.

This Online Connection status is calculated out based on a combination of packet loss and round trip time for communication.* If a player has a Bad Connection (One Red Dot) there is a higher chance of players losing connection and dropping out of the game session.

    Improved Community Browsing

A number of improvements have been made to the in-game Community menus to reduce the number of instances where slowdown or lag may occur when browsing Community Levels.

You may notice that the scroll speed between categories on the main Recommended and Genre menus has been reduced slightly. This is intentional to prevent the game from trying to download too much data at once and is amongst the changes that we have implemented to help optimise the overall experience.

The other changes are more behind-the-scenes and should be less noticeable other than these combined changes should help to reduce the number instances of slowdown and lag.

Just think about the visors in Call of Duty, they were red too.

I like the new upcoming features. I posted the news on LBF too. Thank you for sharing it here too.

Yep, I think we all never really relied on the LBP in-game level finding system(we just hook up on lbp.me and boot up those levels lol), but it's really great that Sumo is making an effort for us to not always have to be on lbp.me from now on

  10. Thanks!

I'm actually torn on that -
While I agree most people use fansites to find levels, the people both posting there and browsing only make up a tiny percent of LBPs total playerbase.
Even fewer levels to pick from when you consider how unappealling the sales pitch of some level showcase threads are due to lazy posters.
I've often tried to use the in-game search tools but text searches were just too random and non-specific, which, to be honest, isn't any different from searching LBP.me or the level showcase forums.

If these in-game genre tags actually work, unlike the current tools, then this could be outstanding for helping find content I'm interested in.

The only drawback is the likelyhood of mis-use of the tags, which, as far as I have seen, has always been a thing.
For example, I see 'RPG' allied to levels that should now be using the 'Hangout' tag.
RPGs and Hangouts are not the same thing, and I think this all stems from the kids not understanding that 'Role playing' is not the same as an RPG in the traditional genre sense.
Or tower defence games being called RTS's. Urg.

    There is a 'Gallery' tag.

'Music Gallery' would be the most specific of all the Tags available.
Should costume galleries have their own tag, too?

  18. Thanks!

I love this idea! I do wish that the genre labels weren't entirely reliant on the creator though. Sometimes people have weird definitions as Ostler5000 said. Heck, even AAA titles mislabel (Final Fantasy XV as a base game is not an RPG, it's and action-adventure!!!!).

  24. Thanks!

Is Skyim an RPG? What exactly is a RPG? I always thought a RPG is a game, where you play as a character in a open world with skills to levelup. Am I right?

  26. Thanks!

That's a tricky question... For me real RPGs were always turn based either through rolling a dice (back in the 90s!) or early versions of final fantasy etc.. In these games the player takes a turn and then the AI or dungeon keeper takes a turn. The key for me was that you could spend as much time as you wanted in-between turns planning your next move.

It's all a little blurry now... so while skill trees and the open world aspect are still there, turn based play is perhaps a little too slow for your average player and so has been sidelined.

I would say an RPG is a game with different classes (roles). Skyrim tries this with mage, archer, warrior, and other skills, but some people say it is less RPG than oblivion ( I would agree, but also would argue it still is an rpg). I base this definition off of what RPG's originally were, tabletop RPGs.

Back to the patch though, has anyone had more freezing online? I've had to restart my game multiple times when browsing since everything would just freeze.

  30. Thanks!

    Thanks for the answers.

I didn't have problems yet. The fps problems are normal I guess.

  32. Thanks!
