(LBPC15) THE NEW YEAR'S CHANGE

2018 is coming, and along with it, a whole new year full of new and exciting things. And maybe even scary ones...

We want you to create a level that incorporates a change in a character's life or environment.
Will 2018 suddenly be full of peaceful aliens, due to a new contract Earth signed with the Galactic Federation?
Or will 2018 be a lovely new year for a dog that now has a family?
Or will Bob move out of his town to an unknown abandoned city full of scary ghosts?

Whatever it is, we want to see THE CHANGE! If it’s a bad change, how did your character(s) solve the problem? If it’s a good change, what we’re things like before it happened?
Show us in a single, story driven level. You may include cinematics if you like, but we will be judging the interactive gameplay of your level.
The winner will receive a rare LBPC Pin and Crown!

RULES

• Create one original, previously unpublished level. No level links allowed.
  
  
• Levels must be playable. Cinematics are allowed, but we are judging the gameplay of each level.
  
  
• Levels must be single player compatible, not a Versus level.
  
  
• Publish your levels by 11:59pm GMT February 12, 2018, and include the text “(LBPC15)” in the title of the level
  
  
• Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss them!
  
  
• You can only submit one entry.
  
  
• After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread or send me a PM.
  
  
• Last but not least, have fun, play fair and respect other creators, LBPC members, Judges and Staff! (Contestants banned from LBPC at any time during the period of the contest are automatically disqualified from it).

Just to confirm the rules:

The type and length of gameplay does not matter as long as its only one level entered.

I noticed 2018 being referenced. Does the story need to be real world, or specifically the year 2018 or can it be anything so long as it shows a change in someones life over the course of the level?

Good questions

Yes, length and gameplay type are up to you, so long as it fits into one level.

The story does not have to be related to the real world or present time. It could be set in the past, future, the change your character goes through could be time traveling or crossing dimensions into an alternate reality.

Make a story about a change in a character's life (A guy shaving off his beard for example). Have fun creating!

Maybe the change is the character hits his head and can't remember anything. Maybe he was really mean and then ends up nice. ..or was a very nice person who becomes and evil villain.

I'm working on a level right now. It's been getting a lot of positive feedback and I think it's fun to play. I wonder if I could incorporate change into the story...

Specifically, it needs to be a character who goes through a change. Could be a change of environment (like moving to a new town or school) or more of an internal change, like falling in love or tasting cheese for the first time.

So yeah, go for it. A change in your character's life. Be creative!

so change itself couldnt be used as a gameplay element? e.g. using the triangle button to turn into a can of tuna fish.

In the description of the competition you can read that the entry should incorporate a...

...a change in a character's life or environment.

...or both of them.

I was working on a level and it heavily uses change of the environment to get through it but it has no story, does it still qualify in the contest?

its no requirement to create a story based level for the contest, so I see no impediment for your level to participate!
