Thread: Guard Creature

  1. #1

    Default Guard Creature

Ok ... I want a guard creature that turns around.

How do I achive this. I thought about a creature that has an emitter on himself that emits another creature at the exact second it disappers (or just a 0.1 second before it) and that creature is the same only looking the other way and walking into the other direction.

The newly emitted one got an emitter too, doing the exact same thing, too. So I need to adjust the lifetime of those two creatures to emit each other.

But that sounds extremely complicated. Is there another way to make a guard creature, that patrols an area and turns around? I need it to have a backside so to make the creature face towards me, sitting in front of my PS3, is not an option.

The clou is, that the player has to attack the guard from the back side.

I made a similar creature, but it's immobile in a point. It turns the eyes, so it gives the illusion taht it can see. If you try to attack it when it is watching you, you'll die. But if you attack it when it doesn't watch you, it'll die. Behind it, there is a "stick" of cardboard, with a proximity switch on his point. It turns at the same time with the eyes, so the switch activates only if you are near the creature and it is watching you.
I don't know you understand how it works, if you want i can make a little tutorial

To make a moving guard, you can use my crature and add legs, or you can use an invisible piston to make it move orizzonatlly. Do you have the MGS pack? If yes, use the light switch, using it like a torch in the hand of the guard, it will turn when the guard changes direction. If the sacboy is in the area of the light, the guard will shoot him

I can help you to make this kind of creature, cause it can be used in many ways

There is a light switch? I got the MGS pack only for a few days now and did not have the chance to look into the objects I got from it.

Your idea sounds great but it has to be a moving guard, not something that closes its eyes, because it does not fit what I want but if you have it in some level i'd like to see what you mean.

You will never be able to make something the really turns around this way because you simply can't rotate anything on the Y or Z axis.

find the two points in which the creature moves to and fro, then place an emitter at each point, one that emittes the moving creature facing one way, and the other emitter emits it facing the other way...

time how long it takes one to reach the other point, this will be the creatures lifespan and spawning frequency on the tweak settings of both emiiters...

then set one of the emiiter's sync to this time and the other emitter's sync to DOUBLE the first ones sync...

this is what i done on the level im making for a horse and it works perfectly ^_^

its quite confusing, and if u dont understand i can show u my level over psn

Of course! I can switch the direction directly in the emitter! I will try that!

Just be aware that the creature will keep spawning with this method, even when defeated. If you want a creature that can be defeated then you should have a switch on the creature that emits a magnetic key. Have a magnetic key switch of that color set to inverted as well as on/off. Wire the magnetic key switch to both emitters and set the radius large enough to cover the entire patrol area. Now, the emitters will stop once the creature is defeated.

You can have the magnetic key emit to a back layer or above/below the screen to make the mechanism invisible.

thats all a good idea ^_^

or u could have ur emiiters on a dissolvable object, then they dissolve after a certain event is triggered eg bombs released from ceiling to kill creature or something

That is a lot of good advice. I see if I can make something out of that
