LittleBigPlanet FAQ
br>Welcome to the LittleBigPlanet FAQ. Keep in mind that this FAQ list will continue to grow as we find out more about this game.
What is LittleBigPlanet?
LittleBigPlanet is a game being created for the Playstation 3 console from a company called Media Molecule.
Tell me more about the game…
LittleBigPlanet is like nothing you have played before. Here’s what Media Molecule had to say about this game:
The LittleBigPlanet experience starts with players learning about their character’s powers to interact physically with the environment. There are obstacles to explore, bits and pieces to collect and puzzles to solve – requiring a combination of brains and collaborative teamwork. As players begin to explore, their creative skills will grow and they will be ready to start creating and modifying their surroundings – the first step to sharing them with the whole community.
On the surface, Little Big Planet looks like a beautiful side view platformer. But to leave it as that would be criminal. Everything in the environment has realistic physics that govern the way you interact with the world. In other words, next to nothing in the animations or the way you interact is scripted. It’s all physics based. This is a first in video games. At least to the amazing extent to which this was pulled off.
Not only do you have these amazing visuals set in place with great physics, but you also have a level editor to create any kind of levels you want. Throw in the fact that you can easily upload your levels to the LittleBigPlanet community page for people to play, review, and comment on, and you have a game that has unlimited potential.
To get a better idea of what is being explained here with mere words, check out the LittleBigPlanet video section of the site. If you’re not at all impressed, I think you might have issues.
What Different Game Modes are there in LittleBigPlanet?
Initially, there just seemed to be a “get to the end of the level and collect sponge along the way. It’s been revealed though that there can be other modes such as racing with leaderboards as well as pursuit modes as well. Little is known at this time though.
Can you die in LittleBigPlanet?
As far as we can tell, no. The challenge isn’t in not dieing or being killed. It’s in problem solving and figuring out how to advance in the level.
Are there enemies in LittleBigPlanet?
At first, it looked like there wouldn’t be enemies in LittleBigPlanet. As of this July 07 though, it looks as though enemies are in the mix!
How many people can play this at once?
As it stands now, up to 4 people can play at once either online or on the same console.
How is the screen split up with 4 players at once?
It isn’t split up. Everyone is kept on the same screen. But the camera zooms in and out to allow players to be where ever. As the players get closer together, the camera zooms in closer. As they get further, the camera zooms out to continue showing all players.
Is designing your own levels hard?
Not all all. The level creation tools in this game are amazing, and easy to use. Check out the LittleBigPlanet Video section of the site, and checkout the content creation video.
Can you change how an object looks that is placed in a game?
Oh yeah. They have a whole whack of photo realistic textures to choose from to give your object the look it needs. If that wasn’t enough, there is a thing called LittleBigPlanet stickers that allow you to cover your 3d objects with images provided with the game, or even your own images! The level editor smartly applies these stickers to the environment. The possibilities for customizing you levels are endless.
Is there any way you can edit your character?
Big time. Not only are there huge amount of options for adding cool stuff to your character from avatar inventory boxes, but you can apparently also use anything on the levels, resize it, rotate it and place it on your character. If you want a mini tree sticking out of your characters head, by all means.
You mentioned you can play online. Is it free?
Yes. Because Sony has decided not not change for their online services on the Playstation Network, playing LittleBigPlanet online, sharing levels and all of the community features for this game will be free. If this game would have been for the Xbox 360, you would have had to pay a monthly fee to connect to the XBL service. Not the case with LittleBigPlanet.
What is the LittleBigPlanet release date?
Media Molecule and Sony are hoping to release LBP in January, 2008
You talked about a release date. Is there any way I can try this game before it comes out?
Apparently there is a LittleBigPlanet demo slated for some time this fall of 2007. They said that they might even include some of the levels users created on the demo for the final game! This obviously suggests that we will get to try the level editor for ourselves when the LBP demo comes out.
